In 1938, the Waco Rifle Association started producing T-shirts promoting their Second Amendment rights. To this day, NRA T-shirts are still popular among gun enthusiasts throughout the United States. Morton Grove is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 27,691 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Morton Grove has been home to the Morton Arboretum since 1892 and to the Chicago Park District since 1896. The first settlement in what is now Morton Grove was on a small island in the Western Lake Erie Plain about two miles (3 km) west of present-day Mundelein Avenue and one mile (1.6 km) south of present-day North Avenue. The site where Morton Grove now stands was chosen by early settlers because it had good soil, plentiful water resources, and easy access to markets for goods grown on nearby farms. In 1852, John Pritzker purchased of land east of Mundelein Avenue from the Ottawa Indians for $2 per acre ($40 per kilometer). Pritzker named his new community "Mornetown." By 1860, mail service had arrived here from Peoria and other major cities; this made Morton Grove an important center for trade and commerce. In 1865, Pritzker donated 9 acres (37 hectares) of land to be used as a public parkland; this became known as "Mornetown Square." A year later he donated another 5 acres (18 hectares), also located east of Mundelein Avenue between North and South Avenues, to become "Morton Park". In 1892, following ratification of the United States Constitution by referendum via popular vote, John Wernher von Braun founded Aurora Township in north suburban Cook County with his family's farmhouse as its nucleus. Von Braun soon began donating land near Aurora Heights for use as parks or open space; these include Arlington Heights Cemetery (), Belmont Gardens (), Glencoe Woods () and today's State Fairgrounds (). In 1896 following incorporation into Cook County by voters via charter they renamed their town "Morton Grove". At that time they were one of only a few towns in Cook County not encumbered by a city limit which would have restricted growth should it expand beyond its borders. Today Morton Grove continues to thrive despite modest expansion - annexations have taken place within its boundaries more than once but never really affecting its core character or downtown business district - thanks largely to strong leadership from elected officials who continue to support local businesses even when annexed into larger municipalities
