Its current form as a larger city began Toombs County-wide Prohibition Era district in 1949. Today, Morton Grove is home to over 100 businesses including banks, grocery stores, department stores and manufacturing plants. It also boasts a large array of cultural attractions including two symphony orchestras (the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and The Chicago Pops) as well as numerous art galleries and prominent restaurants.

Morton Grove is an agricultural community and has a significant dairy industry. The village was founded by Norwegian immigrants in 1892. Morton Grove is located just east of Chicago on the border of Kane and DuPage counties. Morton Grove's rich agricultural history began with early settlers Ole Hansen and his brother Peder Olsen who arrived in 1852 from Norway. They started a farm north of town on what is now Old Hwy 606. In 1892, Norwegian immigrant Captain Wessel Larsen bought some land adjacent to where present-day Morton Grove Village sits and settled his family there. He named it Morton Grove after his birthplace, Oslo, Norway. By 1902, the Larsens had developed a large dairy operation here that produced milk for local consumption as well as selling its products to other villages in Cook County and farther downstate during summer months when demand was high. Later that decade money became available to buy additional acreage within the village limits so that the Larsens could expand their operations even further into what are today McCormick Place Shopping Center (north side), Lincoln Park (south side), Hirshhorn Museum & Sculpture Garden (east side), and Willis Tower (west side). Today all but one of these buildings still stand - including their original structures which were razed in 1967 to make way for new development including McCormick Place Shopping Center - providing evidence that commercial growth in Morton Grove was not only sustainable but also highly profitable over time! Today's farmers continue to produce goods ranging from fresh vegetables to processed foods such as cheese, eggs, bacon, flour tortillas etc., while also exporting corn/maize/wheat flour items as well as soybeans/peanuts through various processing plants across Illinois and Wisconsin – making Morton Grove one of America's premier food production centers!

The town's most prominent landmark is the Morton Grove United Methodist Church, which was built in 1881 and remains one of the oldest churches in Illinois. Morton Grove is also known for its Agricultural Experiment Station, founded in 1907 by Dr. John Wistar and Dr. George Washington Carver. The station played an important role in developing modern agriculture methods and products. Today, it houses a variety of museums and attractions associated with agricultural history including a greenhouse and research barn.
Morton Grove was founded in 1855 by Levi Morton and his brother John. The town was named after the nearby Morton farmstead, which had been in Morton's family for many years. In 1872, the village of Morton Grove merged with the neighboring town of Chicago.
