Morris, Illinois is an unincorporated community in Randolph County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Morris is located on the east side of the Chicago River and is close to downtown Chicago. The first Europeans to visit Morris were French traders in 1672 who named it "Fonds de la Ronde" after a nearby hill. A post office was established at Morriss in 1838, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1906. The town started as a small settlement on the east side of the river near what is now State Street and Wabash Avenue. The railroad reached Morris in 1866 and by 1870 there were about 100 people living there. In 1880, Morris had a school, hotel, store and two churches: one Protestant and one Catholic. It became an incorporated village in 1889 when all of Randolph County was organized into counties; Morris became part of Cook County because it had a larger market for produce than Kane or Winnebago Counties. In 1925 the village had a water tower, electric lights, telephone service (through Wabash Avenue), library (with 10 miles of wire) and three churches: one Protestant and two Catholic; both were built subsequent to that year's merger with other villages within Cook County into "Morris Township." In 1957 Morrison Township lost its charter as part of county reorganization; however it continued to exist as an independent municipality until 1984 when all municipalities within Cook County merged into "Chicago". The Village never regained its charter but continues to exist as an unincorporated community with a population below 1,000 residents today since most residents are employed within their own communities which continue to thrive despite city-wide competition from Downtown Chicago's increasing density along Michigan Avenue/Lake Shore Drive which has destroyed many small businesses over time while also reducing access to quality open space necessary for economic development such as parks that have been important for residents for generations including early twentieth century farmers who grew corn here before cars arrived

They famously explored much of central Missouri and Kansas during their trip; their journals are still consulted by historians today! The expedition's leader, Captain James K. Polk (of course), took great pride in having organized this important first scientific journey through open country! Although they didn't explore any of modern-day Illinois or Missouri - which were then part of Kentucky - these events helped lay the groundwork for later settlement hereabouts! In fact, many settlers in what is now Morris were actually members of Captain Polk's party! This includes one man who lived there until his death in 1840: Samuel Morse! And don't forget about those nifty metropolises mentioned earlier... Springfield came into being as a result of yet another exploratory venture led by Captain Polk himself... he journeyed upriver to Council Bluffs ( Iowa) to investigate an Indian threat thereto! Today, much like back then, Morris is a small but thriving community filled with people from all over McLean County! Its citizens enjoy several unique aspects that set it apart from other towns in our area: 1) It has always been an agricultural center; crop production continues to be an important factor in its economy even 50 years after it became a suburb ofSpringfield! 2) It retains much character from its pioneer days; many old buildings still remain standing and are used for various purposes such as government offices and schools today!), including some lovely Victorian homes dating back to the 1800s (!); 3) There’s also quite a bit of history associated with its post office - which served as both headquarters for local farmers and also home to one of Springfield’s earliest newspapers (the Evening Star), back when only residents could own property within walking distance thereof!) 4) Finally, Morrissians have always been proud “rustic”folk - they know how to live simply but well folks!)
