In 1907, a new rifle and shotgun were developed in Morris and they both used lead bullets. That year, the town began manufacturing its own ammunition and also started selling ammo to other towns in central Illinois. By 1922, Morris had become one of the leading producers of ammunition in the state of Illinois. In 1911, bullet production moved from Morris to Decatur, Illinois due to a lack of available lead-free bullets for handguns in Morris. In 1927, Bullet Manufacturing Corporation merged with Winchester Ammunition Company and became part of Winchester Incorporated. In 1934, Winchester merged with Remington Arms Company and became America's largest firearms manufacturer with more than $5 billion in sales by 1984.

Morris is a small town in McLean County, Illinois. The population was 2,521 at the 2010 census. Morris is located at (41.035673, -87.780553). It is part of the Springfield metropolitan area. The name of the town was chosen by General David Dixon in 1847 while exploring the area around Springfield. The first permanent settler in Morris was John Watterson, who arrived in 1837 and built a cabin on the north side of Big Creek. Watterson's son, Nathanial, later married Anna Thornton and started a family that lived there for three generations until they moved to Austin in 1957. Anna Thornton's great-granddaughter, Julie Wehner Webbell, currently resides in Morris and has been an active member of the community since she was age 8. As early as 1846, two men named Green had arrived from Lebanon Township and began to trade with the local Kaskaskia people near where Morris now stands. In 1849 John Stephenson mapmarked what is now east of Main Street as "New Salem" on his survey of land grants awarded to various pioneers who had settled in McLean County during its initial organization under statehood on March 3rd,1848. At least one other settler called New Salem before it became known as Morris: George Washington Sprague who platted what is now south side of Main Street between Old Town Road and Indian Trail (now Harper Road) about 1840 or so according to one source; he may have named it after his maternal grandfather Nicholas Sprague whose plantationstead adjoined New Salem some time prior thereto according to another source though no record exists documenting this identification either way - quite possiblysprague simply anglicized his surname from page 377 line 7 chisels creek road) . Morris did not become a separate town until 1865 when it merged with nearby Westview Township via an act passed by the General Assembly which amended sections of Act No 9 Of 1865 entitled "An act fororganized society for carrying onRegistering deeds &c." According to historian Tom Laughlin: "In 1865 Jonesboro [westside] township united with Morrissey [eastside], creating what would eventually be known as Springfield". Even though both towns were organized days after Mclean County was created following Illinois' admission into the Union on April 12th newly erected county governments were not effective until May 1st so all acts passed during that interim period are still considered legal history including this amendment to Act No 9 which became operative July 1st 1865 - also note that township boundaries changed many times during those years due mainly to growth and shrinkage within individual townships rather than any statewide change... Morris never achieved jurisdictional status as an independent municipality like Westview did but continued functioning as just anotherresidential community withinMcLeanCounty through ordinances passed by village councils." Laughlin goes onto state: "It didn't take long for residents of both towns to develop close connections with one another despite their separate statistical backgrounds."
