In 1848, John Fenton purchased land east of present-day Morristown Road from Jacob Ziegler. Fenton built a house on what is now known as Gault Street and named it "Fenton's Mills." In 1865, Elisha Senter purchase land south of present-day Morristown Road from John Fenton for $1,000. Senter renamed his land "Senter's Mill". He built a mill on what is now known as North Avenue and named it "New Hope". New Hope was one of the first mills in Illinois to be automated using electric machinery in 1926. A Methodist church was founded in Morristown by Rev. Drury Foote on October 2nd, 1830 with 30 members; however only 8 remain today affiliated with that denomination’s faith today after leaving Morris during World War II when local religious services were replaced by Veterans Affairs hospitals due to budget cuts within VA.. Reverend Foote also founded First Presbyterian Church (now Evangelical United Synagogue) at 10 South Main Street where he officiated for 94 years before his death on November 9th 1934…. In 1870 Rev J C Herring organize farming society which conducted minor crops such as corn; however this society failed because there was no market for those crops…. On February 25th 1875 township formed under state law 6 am form made available for sale lots located between State Line road and Springfield line…thus creating township three days after statehood….. For over 100 years Township has functioned as an organization having meetings every fourth week….. On July 3rd 1907 incorporation certificates #527 issued by Secretary Of State Carlile Molnar…… …the original plat map showing boundaries between townships dating back to 1861
