The first settler in Morris Township was Abram Hines who arrived there with his family on May 5, 1836 from New York City via boat landing at present-day Market Street Landing along the Fox River near what is now North Avenue Street. Abram had been born about 1795 in North Carolina as Abram Higginbotham and moved with his family to America around 1800 when he joined his father's herd of cattle that had come overland from England under Captain John Smith expedition commanded by Lewisand Clark (the journey has been chronicled by History Channel's "Frontier"). After some years living near Batavia (now Bloomington), IL where he worked as a carpenter for three years before moving back home to help care for his aging father during a severe winter storm that destroyed much of northeastern Illinois early January 1850; Abram finally settled down about 6 miles northeast of current day downtown Morrisburg within what is today known as Easton Township east side [today’s] corner lot number 4 & south side lot number 2 – just east or southeast of present day South Terrace Road—northwest or northwest bounded by state line then current boundaries including parts now included within Livingston County north side road lots 3 & 4 thence south side lot 5 home place Lot # 7 thence northeast direction along State Line thence arriving here after an extended journey through many dangerous woods etc., less than 1/4 mile distance traveled "The original settlers were Abram Hines (May 5th1836) wife Lydia Maria Hines (born Nov 12th 1830) children: Abel Higginbotham (May 21st 1840), Ishmael Higginbotham(July 16th 1842), Reuben Higginbotham(March 28th 1845), Margaret Elizabeth Higginbotham(November 9th1849). Morris, Illinois is a small town in DeKalb County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,721 at the 2010 census. Morris is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Morris was founded in 1859 by John and Nancy Morris as a site for a new county seat. The first courthouse was built in 1861 and it was located on South Market Street near the present-day intersection of State Street and First Avenue. In 1865, the current courthouse building was constructed on North Calumet Avenue between Dearborn and Washington Streets. The originalMorris post office opened in 1868 at 7th and Washington Streets; it closed in 1961. The community experienced an important growth spurt during World War II due to its military production capabilities. A large munitions factory operated here from 1942 to 1945, producing shells for the American army's fighting against Nazi Germany. The community has declined since then, but its economic importance remains strong due to its location within close proximity to some of Chicago's most important commercial districts including Lincoln Park (to the north), DowntownChicago (to the east), MidtownChicago (to the south), and West Side Chicago (to the west). Morris also has several downtown businesses that are well known for their quality produce such as Jiffy Lube Garage, which sells gasoline tanks and parts for cars; Perkins Coffee & Bakery; Morristown Hardware; Stroud’s Antiques; Fox’s Ice Cream Parlor;and Wrigley Field Museum store - all open daily except Saturday from 9am to 5pm. In recent years there have been efforts made by local officials to revivemorris through various redevelopment projects including land purchases/acquisitions/revitalization of facilities such as: a new high school; an outpatient mental health center; construction of new streetscape features including widened sidewalks and streetlights throughout town Center two blocks east of Main Street Block 1A - this will include retail storefronts facing onto Center Street with accompanying parking garages adjacent thereto providing access into town centerNEWS RELEASE - On July 3rd 2019,Morris Town Council passed Resolution No 22017 condemning any development or renovation project which would impact or disturb residents living within walking distance thereof without prior written consent from all concerned individuals
