Montgomery is a small, unincorporated community in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 514 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Montgomery may be named after General James Montgomery and his troops who fought in the Mexican–American War. The post office was established at Montgomery in 1872, but it only served as a stop on the Underground Railroad until 1881. In 1875, John A. Murdock founded a grocery store at Montgomery and continued to operate it until his death in 1916. A post office called Montrose was established at Montgomery in 1895, but it served only until 1912. The first school in Montgomery was built there in 1903 by Mrs. Lillian Hahn and Mrs. Maud Bigham among others with assistance from Mr- Niles Canfield who donated land for the school. In 1915, Drusilla Carpenter started teaching school there for grades one through twelve and classes were held every day excepting Saturday which were taught on Sunday mornings by her mother Mrs.- Gertrude Greenidge Carpenter from Mount Prospect School which had been opened two years earlier that year by her father Pius Carpenter Sr.. In 1931, Mrs.- Anna Juhl built another schoolhouse addition to serve as kindergarten through fifth grade along with a new public library which opened its doors on July 1st of that year also serving as town hall for township government meetings thru out Cook County until 1974 when centralized government functions moved to Rockford IL however these meetings still take place at Montrose High School thenceforth known as Township Government Center where all decisions made within our township are recorded and acted upon hereinunto apportioned to each member thereof during their lifetime or so long as they remain citizens of this Township...Mrs.- Anna Juhl passed away November 3rd 2006 leaving behind 4 amazing children ranging from 11 years old autistic daughter Rebekah (née Kuczynski) now deceased; 10 grandchildren including one currently residing in Austin TX; 6 great grandchildren including one currently residing in Schaumburg IL ; 1 great granddaughter currently resideinthe Wheaton IL area Allison (nee Scudder) passed away October 2nd 2008 leaving behind 7 amazing children ranging from 5 years old autistic son Aidan (née Moriarty) now deceased; 4 siblings total: 2 sisters living with parents & 2 sisters living withiblings’ families members: brother MichaelScudder lives w/his wife's family; sister ChristineScudder lives w/sisters' husbands cousins & uncle - she has an 8 yr old niece - she goes by 'Nina' On September 17th 1870 four men teamsters named James Wofford Browning Isaac Briggs met up near Cahokia Illinois while on their way southbound on I-74 towards St Louis Missouri They decided then and there that they would start their own village if they could find enough land They journeyed back north again over winter getting help along the way from other villages such as Peoria il& Indiana City Il& eventually reached what is now Montgomery about March 24th 1871 After spending some time prospecting they found some nice land east of present day Montrose village On April 9th 1871 they laid out their town square measuring wide by long consisting of three streets running North & South connected by a Market Square Facing East bounded North By The River With One Side Of The Square Overhead And WestBound By Two Streets Which led To A Road Running FromEast ToWest Between Two Buildings In Which Was Their Jail And Post Office

Montgomery is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Montgomery was founded in 1836 by pioneer John Montgomery and his family. It has been the seat of government for McLean County since 1856. The community was named for General Robert E. Lee, who represented Virginia in the U.S. Senate from1859 to 1861 and again from 1865 to 1870. The first post office in Montgomery opened on December 7, 1836, serving as the provisional capital of what would become McLean County until February 2, 1837 when Springfield became the permanent capital of Illinois Territory (later Illinois). In 1840, John Montgomery donated land to build a courthouse and schoolhouse in what would later be called Montgomery Village. In 1845–46 President James K. Polk moved his headquarters from Springfield to Montgomery because of its strategic location on High Street between Decatur Road and Washburn Avenue: "It is not only convenient but also a valuable point of attack or defense against any strong party attempting to cross our borders." The first store built inMontgomery village was owned by Captain Ebenezer Fenton and it operated until about 1850 when it closed due to lack of customers; one account claims that this store cost $2 per week to operate when it did so. In 1860 Colonel Isaac Noyes organized a volunteer group with wagonloads of provisions and men under commandof Captains Jesse Ligonier (Ligonier's Expedition), Orville Wright (Wright's Expedition)and Charles Beecher(Beecher's Expedition)to march into Mexico during the American Civil War just before Abraham Lincoln made his famous call for 12 million volunteers three days before Christmas 1860 which led to Union General Ulysses S Grant marching into Mexico City with US$5 million as part of his initial Sherman strategy known as Pancho Villa Invasion
Montgomery was founded in 1803 by James Montgomery, a Revolutionary War veteran and the first American to settle in what is now Illinois. The town was named for General Richard Montgomery, who died in 1781 during the American Revolution. At its peak, Montgomery had a population of over 200 people. In 1847, following the Chicago fire, Montgomery's main street became known as Burnham Street after General Jonathan Burnham, who led the city's initial response to the blaze.
