The first use of pepper spray as an investigative tool occurred on July 4, 1879, when white supervisors tried to stop black employees from protesting against high prices at the local grocery store. After using pepper spray and Odorless gas grenades on the employees, police were able to gain control over the situation and prevent further injuries.
Montgomery, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Montgomery was organized as a townsite on November 12, 1871. The first post office opened in Montgomery on December 1, 1872. The history of Montgomery can be traced back to the early 1800s when French traders and missionaries traveled through what is now Cook County and founded several settlements along the Fox River valley near present-day Montgomery and Calumet Grove. One such group was Father Jacques Marquette's party who arrived in 1795 from Quebec City and named their new land "Montgomery." Settlers began arriving in large numbers during the 1830s as AIG (Anglo American Investment Company) speculation boomed throughout Illinois following General James K. Polk's Ulysses S. Grant victory over Jefferson Davis in the American Civil War that ended with Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1865. In 1857 Union General John A. McClernand marched his brigade into downtown Montgomery to demand surrender from Confederate General Pius IX after Gettysburg Campaign; however, no truce or capitulation could be negotiated due to Confederate gunfire pounding down upon civilian targets inside and outside of town buildings including churches which were then used as hospitals during the battle weeks later ( Figure 2 ). Captain Charles Waddleworth of the 3rd United States Cavalry Regiment skirmished with Rebel forces around town leading up to this engagement; one account has him being shot three times across his chest before falling dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound moments prior to this event). Little did he know that within minutes thereafter it would become an intractable guerrilla war between Union soldiers garrisoning town limits against Confederate raiders until July 4th 1863 when McClernand finally withdrew his force following Battle of Cedar Rapids Creek resulting in just two casualties for both sides according to contemporary reports). As cotton production increased throughout much of America during the mid 19th century white settlement expanding into newly formed territories such as southwestern Indiana & eastern Missouri circa 1850s rapidly replaced Native Americans who had First Nations ownership or occupancy patterns specific to those areas - resulting eventually in Iroquois Nation displacement beginning c1870s primarily due agricultural reasons beyond control by European settlers - One such example being what is now Montrose Township located east side Of Route 63 about 10 miles NE corner of Montrose & Old National Road south side Of Old National Rd coming out of old forest About 15 miles SW corner At Rockville Bluff Factory In Rockville Md owned by George Washington Carver Sr son Of Ebenezer Carver organized Indian militia against white settlement attempt To effect change - driving off whites seeking access land watershed became known as "Carvers Wilderness" . By 1870 few if any natives remained living within township boundaries other than some remnant bands engaged in subsistence farming/hunting/ Gathering deer fawn & turkey eggs intermixed with trade goods with various tribes located adjacent floodplain agriculture becoming more prevalent hunted game diminishing bison herds included), $2 million appropriation approved for purchase by state government In 1871 thru Decatur Stocking Farmstead prospered raising livestock raised Cattle 6 months bugged weather caused Famine That year resulted In mass migration rates exceeding 1000 people per day movinginto rural tavern havens scattered across central IL interior thereby creating communities along river valleys thenceforth termedRiver Valley Forests) An additional factor responsible for declining Native American populations also impacting development opportunities available for future generations include overpopulation relativenceto small acreage remainingproductive thanks largely to historically low birthrates among Natives coupled with very limited education opportunities enjoyed by many clans reducing cultural diversity) growth associated with railroad construction providing easier access transportation alternative markets economy grew spurring even more native resettlement efforts), population sizes increasing proximate major cities established closed down industry relying increasinglyon immigrant labor

Montgomery, Illinois is a small town located in the central part of the state of Illinois. The population was 7,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rockford metropolitan area. Montgomery has been inhabited for over 350 years and is one of the oldest communities in Illinois. The first settlers in what would become Montgomery arrived from Maine in 1795. They were farmers who started a farm on the current site of downtown Montgomery on land donated by General David Dunham. In 1814, they erected a log cabin near present-day Park Street and sold goods door to door to support themselves and their families. When Indiana Territory was created, Montgomery became its capital. The first post office was established here in 1821 and remained open until 1872 when it moved to Rockford. In 1860, James Hines founded an agricultural store here that remains one of Montgomery's most important businesses today. He also served as mayor from 1865-67 and 1870-71; he was again elected mayor in 1916-17 but resigned due to ill health before taking office. Jens Jensen purchased Hines' store from him in 1984 and continues to run it as an independentlyowned business today with 5 employees including its manager/owner, John Dickson Sr.. One notable event that took place during World War I occurred here when more than 2,000 residents registered with local military units for service during that conflict; many men served heroically and some returned home injured or even dead after being stretchered into battle on stretchers like Pvt Earnest Witherspoon (pictured). Many members of this community later organized themselves into several groups called "The thirty" which still exists today as a group dedicated to honoring all military veterans living in or around Montgomery/Rockford area! After World War II ended, many American servicemen returned home having helped rebuild much needed infrastructure such as roads and bridges throughout Northwestern Illinois including Montgomery/Rockford Area! A large number of these veterans settled down within the limits of Montgomery while others continued moving outward into neighboring towns such as Grayslake and Maywood over time creating what we now know as "Montgomeryized" culture which persists to this day! Montgomery was founded in 1824 by John Montgomery and his wife, Sarah. The town originally consisted of just a few homes, but rapidly grew due to the influx of settlers. In 1829, Montgomery became the county seat of La Salle County. By 1840, the population had reached 10,000 people and it continued to grow until 1860 when it reached 25,000 people. The census for 1870 showed that Montgomery had a population of 50,000 people. In 1881, the town became a city and its population increased to 100,000 people. It peaked at its current size in 1920 with 150,000 inhabitants.
