Montgomery is a city in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 24,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Montgomery's incorporation as a town on November 4, 1871 resulted in its current name and designation as one of the "Grand Old Towns" of Illinois. The first permanent settler in what is now Montgomery was James Crouch who arrived in 1849 from Kentucky. He built a cabin on the east side of Kankakee River near what is now Westmont Elementary School. Crouch married Nancy Ladd and they raised six children before moving to Montrose Township on October 11, 1857. They donated land for a public school that opened in 1861 and named it after their home town of Montgomery in Scotland where they had been born and raised. While living in Montrose Township, James Crouch also served as Superintendent of Schools for Kane County from 1862-1866 and 1870-1876; he also taught school at Trinity Episcopal Church (now known as ChristChurch) from 1865-1868 when it became an all-male institution under his leadership. In 1872 when Kane County gained statehood, Montgomery became one of its original townships with four voting members elected through referendum by residents who convened annually at Montrose Presbyterian Church on Horseback Hill to decide issues affecting the township such as taxation rates and land sales which were then ratified by the General Assembly located at Rome (il). In 1900 voters approved merger with Cook County into Illinois due to overcrowding within Cook County jails caused by increased immigration levels following Kansas' admission into the Union during that year while Montgomery remained separate municipality with its own government headed by a mayor/manager running day & night offices including streetlighting until 1955 when those functions were transferred to Cook County under sheriff control becoming one single department known today as Corrections Department - Kane County Jail or CCKJH

Washington thought that if he could get his firearms mounted so that they could be rotated 90 degrees in either direction then he could fire them at any angle anywhere within range! Unfortunately, this wasn’t possible at that time due to limitations on technology at the time. It wasn’t until 1836 when improvements were made to create what would become known as a “gun swivel” design. That year, patent #527,853 was filed by Gideon Wellesokeley under the name “Gun Swivel Mounting Device For Rifle Or Shotguns”. His invention allowed firearms to bemounted so that they could be rotated up or down 45 degrees along two axes – providing an unprecedented degree of flexibility when targeting someone across long distances! Over time, other patents have been filed related to gun swivels including those from John Brownlee and Hiram Maxim who both patented their own versions of this concept back in 1866 and 1867 respectively; these patents would go on to influence many subsequent inventors involved with designing firearms using a Swivel Mounting Device (GMD) design. In 1902/1903 alone there were five such filings submitted – all involving new variations on GMD technology! Today it is still considered an important innovation within firearms engineering because it enables shooters to rotate their weapons 360 degrees without havingto remove them from their mounts!

Montgomery's connection to American history also extends to its economy. In addition to being an important center for commerce and industry, Montgomery also served as a key stop on stagecoaches traveling between Springfield and Chicago throughout much of 19th century America. This route served as a perfect conduit for goods brought overland by wagon trains carrying raw materials needed for construction projects across Midwest states such as Iowa and Minnesota (including Minneapolis). The importance this route had on society cannot be overestimated; without it, many early settlements would not have survived".
Montgomery was originally a small farming community in the northwest corner of Illinois. It became an important railroad junction and coal and woodruff processing center during the early 19th century. The town developed into a large, diverse city by the late 19th century.
