Montgomery, Illinois is a small town located in McHenry County, Illinois. The population was 2,822 at the 2010 census. Its name comes from General George Washington's first settlement in this territory, Montgomery Station. The community is named after Ulysses S. Grant and his wife Lucy Blair Montgomery. It was built on donated land by the Grant family in 1909-10. The village of Montieth was founded in 1892 by James Waugh and his brother-in-law Abraham Lincoln Dodge. They were the first white settlers in what became McHenry County. The village had a post office from 1902 until 1911. In 1916, it absorbed the neighboring town of Northmont into its community of residents. In 1924, Montgomery began to issue its own currency called "Montgomery Dollars." These coins were used for local commerce and public services such as mail service and firewood storage until 1984 when they were replaced with Federal Reserve Notes which continue to be minted today. On July 25th, 1907 (the day after Congress passed the bill creating McHenry County), US President Theodore Roosevelt granted honorary citizenship to Montgomery Village through proclamation No 10582 which reads: "To all who are interested I hereby grant full civic status within my limits as an incorporated village." This act helped promote growth in the community as well as establish trust between government officials and citizens. On October 1st 1915 (just one year before World War I started), the United States Postal Service established a Post Office & Telegraph Center at Montgomery Village which has continued operation ever since! In 1927-28, the First National Bank moved into its new building at 1111 Main Street; it still occupies that building today!

Polk, during the Mexican-American War. In 1847, it became an incorporated village. On November 1, 1930, Montgomery became a city. On January 1, 1935 it annexed the adjoining town of Park Ridge.
