Montgomery is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,762 at the 2010 census. Montgomery was platted in 1857 by citizens of adjoining towns of Rockford and Beloit, who named it for General James Montgomery, an American soldier during the Mexican–American War who had been wounded at Buena Vista. It became a village in 1872 and then a borough in 1907. The borough was annexed by the city of Chicago on February 12, 1908. The Montgomery School District serves Montgomery and its three villages: Rockford Heights (northwest of downtown), North Side (southwest of downtown), and South Side (southwest of city limits). The district has also annexations from the South Shore Village School District to the east; from Cicero Township to the southeast; and from Arlington Heights to the northwest. The village schools are Westmont Elementary School (in north side); Maplewood Middle/High School (in south side); and Fullerstown Senior High School (in west side). In addition there are special schools such as Montessori school Monterey Park Avenue which opened in 2006 with funds provided by Google parent company Motorola Mobility; Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade Franklin Park Elementary located across street from high school; English immersion program A Better Future which provides instructionEnglish language arts for students age 6 to 20 years old when they move into poverty stricken households with parents not able to read or write due to lack of resources; Atwater Lakes Early Childhood Development Program serving pre-kindergarten through 3rd grade students located adjacent to elementary school on Atwater Parkway between Eisenhower Boulevard and Pulaski Road In 1975 discrimination against African Americans ended when all black businesses were allowed within walking distance of local white businesses only

Montgomery was a small village located in far northwestern Illinois, on the banks of the Sangamon River. It was founded in 1849 by James Montgomery and his wife, Martha. From its inception, Montgomery urged development of the area around it as a cattle market for central Illinois farmers. The village grew rapidly during the late 19th century and achieved national attention as a result of its role in helping to create the Transcontinental Railroad. In 1904, Montgomery became part of Newton Township, Cook County. In 1966, Montgomery merged with neighboring villages of Ardenwood and Glen Carbon to form Montrose Township. As of 2018, Montrose Township has a population of about 1,000 people. The township is bordered by Hardin County to the south, Mount Greenwood Township to the east and north-east, Newton Township to the west and northwest (including parts of Montgomery), and Carbondale Municipal Airport to the northwest. Montgomery is home to one high school – Montrose High School – which serves students from grades 9 through 12 (grades 7 through 10 are offered at nearby Glen Carbon). There are also three elementary schools in Montrose Township: Fountain Elementary School; Maple Elementary School; and Parkview Elementary School. A library named after President Abraham Lincoln is also located in Montrose Township.
