Airguns have been used in Montgomery, Illinois for centuries. The first airguns were brought to the area by white settlers in the early 1800s. In 1838, Capt. George Stephenson discovered oil near Montgomery and began drilling for oil wells. He purchased a rifle from a local gunsmith and set out to explore potential oilfields. Stephenson discovered several oil fields in Montgomery and surrounding counties, but he never drilled any of them because he was not able to find any gas jets or other necessary equipment to produce oil from these areas. However, this did not stop Captain Stephenson from buying some airguns from a local gunsmith in 1841. These airguns were called “Shotgun guns” because they fired shot instead of pellets. By 1845, Captain Stephenson had developed an improved shotgun gun that could fire pellets as well as shot. This new shotgun gun was known as the “Montgomery Rifle” and it became very popular among farmers and miners in the area. The success of the “Montgomery Rifle” led to other manufacturers starting up businesses around Montgomery County during the late 1800s and early 1900s. These companies produced many different types of airguns including shotguns, pistols, rifles, muzzleloaders, paintball guns, air pistol platforms, and more! Some of these companies even made their own brands name products such as “John Browning Arms” or “Arsenal Air Guns”! Airguns continued to be popular throughout World War II due to their range potential and easy-to-use design! Many Allied countries such as Britain and China purchased large numbers of airguns during World War II in order to supplement their artillery forces with short-range firepower! After World War II ended, many people decided that they no longer needed short-range firepower when war came again! However, some people did continue using airguns for target shooting purposes until the early 1970s!!!

Montgomery is a small town in Sangamon County, Illinois, United States. The population was 527 at the 2010 census. Montgomery is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is bordered by Aurora to the south, Old Ottawa to the east, Oak Park to the north, and River Forest to the west. Montgomery was founded in 1835 as a log cabin community on a bend in the Kankakee River near what is now Elmhurst Avenue and Cicero Avenue. In 1857 it became an incorporated village with a school and store. By 1920 Montgomery had a post office, two churches (the Methodist Episcopal Church and one Baptist), three businesses (a grocery store, two hardware stores, and a restaurant), four homes (two being single-family homes), two schools (one high school and one middle school), five recreation areas including an Arena football stadium used for practices of the local team (the Montgomery Stars) before their folding in 2002; ten acres of parkland; four wells; one sawmill; one farmstead; and fifty-six residents. In 1960 Montgomery was named "Most Beautiful Place In America" by "The Sunday Times". It has been awarded many awards including being selected as one ofAmerica's Top 10 Places To Live by UBS in 2007 And winning first place in Best Place to Work designation by Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine in 2009

Montgomery was founded in 1839 by Scots-Irish settlers who had fled to what is now Montgomery County from Potter County, Missouri during the American Civil War. The town was named after General James Montgomery, commander of Union forces in the area and a hero of that conflict. The first post office in Montgomery opened on November 12, 1839. The current post office building was built in 1959 and replaced an older structure which served as the town's courthouse until 1955. The original buildings still stand today and are used as community center properties. In 1902, a water system was built for the town and its inhabitants were charged $1 per year for use until 1954 when it became free to all residents. Science fiction author H Rider Haggard moved to Montgomery in 1942 while stationed at Fort Bliss in Texas and wrote his book "Montgomery". Haggard continued living there until his death in 1982.
