The following are some interesting facts about Moline: 1) In 1840 John Atherton founded what would become Moline with his brother Isaac Atherton and others families; 2) In 1851 James Kapp established Kapp Lumber Company here which produced lumber until 1870; 3) During World War II The United States Office Supply Corporation owned most of downtown because they needed all the office space to produce munitions; 4) On October 25th 1959 UIC organized its first football game against Carver College; 5) One hundred years ago today on February 14th1896 Mary Hitchcock married William Hitchcock here at Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Catholic Church; 6) From 1912 until 1978 there was a grocery store located on North First Street called "The Fords" which closed down due to consolidation but still remains open as an art gallery/restaurant; 7) With over 60 acres (24 hectares), Hogsback Park Commission#1 has more than any other park commission in Cook County including items such as 10 tennis courts, 8 baseball diamonds/fields, 4 playgrounds (including two large water parks), 1 soccer field, 2 softball fields and 1 skatepark;

In 1957, Moline became home to the world's first computer system – STANFORD-IBM PC-XT – which helped create new opportunities for the town.
