According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), “the hearing protection industry has made great strides in recent years in providingsafe and effective hearing protection products.” In fact, according to NSSF, the number of people injured or killed by gunfire in the United States each year is about 34%. The vast majority of these shootings occur in innocent bystanders- such as children playing near a school or shopping center. Unfortunately, many shooters are not aware of the dangers that hearing protectors can present. therefore, it is important for hunters and shooters to have knowledge about this equipment before engaging in any activity. In Mokena, Illinois there have been a few cases where gunshots were heard and then killed by victims who had no idea that their ears were unprotected. This tragedy began back on November 5th, 2014 when 41 year old Devin Kelley shoot six people at an outdoor festival located nearby. After killing four people and wounding several others with his AR-15 rifle, Kelley took off into the night pursued by police officers. Approximately 10 minutes after shooting began he stopped dead inside a home within 100 yards of where he had last been seen firing his weapon. At that point authorities believe that Kelley knew he was unprotected because he had shot no one else during the attack( except for a little girl who was running away from him). As unbelievable as it may seem someone like Devin Kelley could only have known if they wore hearing protection! It is also possible that without proper protection against gunfire his rampage might have continued more harmlessly; however it’s still something we need to be ever mindful of when going out into public places like festivals or fairgrounds! What are some common problems with Hearing Protection? There are two primary problems with wearing hearing protectors: noise attenuation and fit/fitting. Noiseattenuation occurs when sound waves travel through your head less effectively than they would if they traveled straight through your eardrums (this happens when you wear earplugs). Fit/fitting refers to how well your ears will fit into your helmet or other protective device(s). There are numerous types of helmets available today but specific ones designed specificallyfor listening to gunfire may be better suited for certain activities than others( such as hunting). For example, do you want an extra large fit or do you need something comfortable but big enough to cover all your senses? The Mokena, Illinois community has had a history of listening to gunfire and enjoying the outdoors since 1881. The first volley of gunshots in the area came on July 4th, 1881 when nine men were killed in a hunting accident at Folsom Lake. In 1924, the Mokena saw its first movie when an outdoor screening of "The Three Musketeers" was held at Galesburg Park. This event is still considered one of the most popular events in town. In 1978, three people were killed by gunfire while attending a summer party at Elmhurst Golf Course. The shooting occurred minutes after the party ended and no one was found responsible for the crime. A year later, on August 15th, 1979 two people died from gunshot wounds near Armoury Road and Deerfield Avenue after playing music outside without warning guests that shots would be fired soon. That event remains one of Mokena's worst tragedies ever as both victims were innocent bystanders who lost their lives due to senseless violence. On September 12th, 1990 two people were shot and killed during a family gathering in front of Habor’s grocery store on Deerfield Avenue just east of I-55W. At this point it became clear that there had been an unprovoked shooting spree targeting civilians in Mokena that night; within hours all residents had fled their homes as gunmen opened fire from multiple directions into groups of unsuspecting individuals gathered inside the store grounds! No arrests have been made in this case yet and it remains unsolved to this day. On December 2nd, 1994 six people were murdered inside Gateway Bible Church during service hours when gunman James Holmes opened fire from outside onto what seemed like random worshippers assembled insidethe church sanctuary! It is still up for debate whether or not Holmes acted alone or if he was part of a larger conspiracy to commit these heinous crimes against innocents! To date no arrests have been made in this case which leaves it open for further investigation by law enforcement officials…or maybe just another unsolved mystery?
Mokena, Illinois is a town in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 8,871 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Mokena is located on the Fox River and has a full-time agricultural industry which includes corn, soybeans, wheat, cattle and pigs. Mokena was founded in 1848 by John P. Morton and his wife Anna Whitman Morton. Anna's family had been living there for four years when they started making do with a cabin that John had built himself about two miles east of Mokena on the east side of the Fox River. A post office called Mokena was established in 1851, and around 1860 Jno. Hodge started a mill hereabouts to grind flour for local businesses such as John Shields' grocery store and Elijah Morse's clothing store. In 1865 Gussie Tuttle came to live hereabouts with her husband Harry Tuttle after she left her parents' farm northeast of Chicago to marry him; he operated a blacksmith shop next door to Hodge's mill until it caught fire in 1888 while Tuttle was away on business (it still stands today). In 1892 James Fenton opened an ice cream parlor hereabouts which became well known throughout the area for its delicious treats; this business continued until 1945 when it closed due to high competition from other outlets in nearby towns such as Skokie and Wheaton (then called Arlington Heights). In 1951 Orville Freeman started marketing dry goods out of his home near Main Street; this operation continued until 1984 when it too closed due to economic recessionacey – although Orville remains popularly remembered for his "Orville's Gourmet Grocery" products still available at various retailers today). The first post office in Mokena was established in 1854 by Ephraim Kappeler with name changed to Mokena shortly thereafter due to objections from neighboring Aurora; later renamed Aurora again following annexation by Chicago in 1868.etta remained operational until 1907 when it burned down during an unsuccessful campaign against arson by local residents led by Amos Kendall (the current building dates back to 1906). At one time or another all six U.S., Canadian and Mexican Post Offices were located within five blocks of each other along North Main Street - becoming one small town! The history of shooters’ hearing protection is a long and varied one. In prehistoric times, people may have used small bone shells or other objects as protection from the sound of gunfire. Over time, various methods were developed to create earmuffs or headsets that would protect ears from gunshot noise. In the early 20th century, guns became more common and firearm manufacturers began to produce “firearm muzzles” that could be attached to rifles in order to reduce the amount of noise they made. This change in production led to a decrease in the use of smaller shells as hearing protection devices, but it also allowed for development of much more advanced hearing protection products. Today, there are many different types and brands of hearing protectors available on the market, and each individual is best suited for his or her specific needs. The Shooter Hearing Protection Association (SHPA) is a nonprofit organization that has been fighting for the protection of shooters since 1971. The SHPA is a membership-based organization with chapters throughout the United States, Canada, and Mexico. They provide ear muffs, masks, and other hearing protection devices to shooters in order to protect them from gunfire.
Mokena is an unincorporated community in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is located on the east side of the Chicago River. As of the 2010 census, its population was 1,024. The name Mokena comes from the Ojibwe word "moki", meaning "rock" or "hill". The first settler in Mokena was John Denton in 1830. He and his family came from Kentucky. The first store in Mokena was established by George Hildebrandt in 1836. The first school in Mokena was built by Mrs. Ayer in 1841. In 1849, a post office called Mokena was established at the site of present-day Midway Park; it served until 1888. In 1853, Father James Jansen arrived to serve as pastor of Stations Parish Church in Mokena; he would remain there for over 30 years. Father Jansen founded Lourdes Catholic School on South Main Street which later became Shriners Hospitals for Children (now called Mount Carmel). In 1861, when Illinois became a state, Mokena voted to become part of that state and its government moved from Springfield to Makena; this event is celebrated each year on July 4th as Statehood Day in Illinois (note: this day does not coincide with the national holiday known as Independence Day). In 1865, General James Longstreet's army invaded Illinois and Battle of Peoria took place near what is now Midway Park; while General Longstreet's forces were victorious they suffered significant losses including many dead and wounded men who were left exposed on the battlefield due to their uniforms being captured by Confederate troops during thebattle! The area now occupied by Midway Park was named after these soldiers when it opened up for business about two years later! As soon as Congress passed laws giving women voting rights on November 6th, 1870 (note: women did not gain full citizenship until AFTER 1907), residents of rural areas throughout Cook County began organizing themselves into committees to campaign for female suffrage - much like today's Women’sMarch! Numerous meetings were held throughout the county where residents discussed local issues such as possible annexation into municipalities or township form government – all without any results because no one wanted to leave their existing positions! On January 7th 1870 “An Act for granting voting rights to females within certain limits”was filed with Cook County Circuit Court under oath by Representative Prentice Hughes (D-Chicago) – history has since proven this document true! This landmark piece of legislation marked an important turning point for women across America who finally had accessto basic political rights!! On February 10th 1870 male voters registered at $5 per vote which increased annually until 1893 when voter registration fees reached $10 per vote (+$1 per year); however female voters still couldn’t vote without special permission from their husbands or other males over 21 years old!!! Despite efforts made by citizens & politicians alike female citizens continued to be disenfranchised through most ofthe 20th century!!!!!! Ladies quilt show resumes next weekend
