In 1938, Dr. George Aiken founded Aiken Optics Company in Minooka with the goal of manufacturing world-class optics products. The company manufactured microscopes and binoculars from its first production line in 1944 until it was acquired by Leupold Corporation in 1978. Minooka is a city in Johnson County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,805 at the 2010 census. The Minooka Manufacturing Company was founded in 1892 and became one of the largest producers of aluminum cans in the world. It closed its doors in 2000. The city began as an agricultural township on the banks of the Ottawa River. A post office called Minooka was established in 1887, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1905, the township became a village; it changed its name to Minooka City on December 15, 1912. On February 14, 1922, Minooka City merged with Farmington Township to form a new town named after General James Krieger Jr., who had led Union Army forces during World War I and later served as Mayor of Farmington (1922-24). At that time, the population of Farmington Township was over 50% Native American Indian; however, because of ordinance passage by then-Mayor George Wirths which increased African Americans' access to education through public schools only for white children under 12 years old and lifted all limits on Jewish enrollment in Farmington Township's schools (the first such ordinance passed by any municipality), most black residents chose to stay within their own townships rather than merge with other municipalities. In 1970–71 when Johnson County underwent annexation by Cook County (then known as Chicago), much discussion took place about whether or not MinOOKA (as opposed to MINOOKA CITY) should be annexed into Cook County since so many residents there were from outside of the city limits. Ultimately it did not go through because many people living within the city limits felt that they would lose their jobs if they moved away from their home base – something which did happen after Cook County made changes that allowed for more job opportunities outside of cities while keeping some jobs within cities like Chicago itself On May 5th 1920 two automobiles started flames at what is now called "The Factory", now known as "The Can Factory". This event started a fire that burned down three buildings including The Can Factory which still stands today and remains one of Johnson county's biggest landmarks today

Minooka is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,526 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The name comes from Miokka ( Finnish for "place where they will hunt"), which means "hunting ground" in the Kärpät language. The first settlers to Minooka were James and Elizabeth Cook who arrived in 1814. They built a cabin on the north side of the creek that flows through town. The Cooks also raised livestock and hiked to many local hunting grounds including those near present-day Waukegan, Illinois. In 1828, John Dutton moved his family to Minooka from Rockford Township and became its first mayor. Dutton served until 1840 when he died at age 83 years old. His wife Catherineserved as Mayor from 1845 until her death in 1865 then again from 1870 until she also died at age 83 years old in 1875; both women are buried together in town's Cemetery.. In 1851, John Cook's son Robert Cottage built a log cabin on what is now Park Road just east of current day Park Road Elementary School with land he had purchased along with his father’s farmstead around mile post 9 on Ulysses S Grant Boulevard (now State Street). This property would later become home to Abbott Laboratories Incorporated as well as other businesses such as Auto Zone and Burger King while portions still stand today within park boundaries across I-94 southbound lanes between Park Road and Midway Drive; these days known as State Street Village development by locals
