Minooka is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town was founded by Scandinavian immigrants in 1853 as a small community on the banks of the Kankakee River. The original name for Minooka was "Forsyth". In 1857, when a post office was established in Minooka, it changed its name to "Muncie". In 1916, Minooka became a city and has since been one of the most populous towns in Cook County. The village of Milton annexed part of Minooka in 1955; however, this annexation did not take place until after incorporation as a city by an act of the state legislature. Milton's annexation made MinOOKA both an incorporated city and a rural municipality with shared powers between the two communities. This arrangement remains in effect today and allows for more cooperation between police officers and citizens than would otherwise be possible due to jurisdictional differences between single municipalities and cities. It is also unique among Illinois municipalities insofar as it has both an elected Mayor (currently Jody Hargrave) and City Council members who are appointed by Mayor Hargrave upon approval from City Councilmembers from other wards which make up the Municipal Districts (MD). As such, all ordinances passed by either councilmember must first be approved by both Mayor Hargrave and City Council before becoming effective; this helps ensure that decisions about important public services are taken jointly rather than solely through individual councillors' priorities or personal agendas

Minooka is an unincorporated community in Kane County, Illinois, United States. It lies along the banks of the Kankakee River east of Chicago. The population was 2,402 at the 2010 census. The first European to visit Minooka was a French fur trader named Antoine de La Vallière in 1795. He named the area "Minooka" after his home village of Minault on the Isle des Gardes off Quebec City, Canada. A post office was established at Minooka in 1837, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1903. A railroad station called Minooka Junction was located at the junction of what is now Route 67 and State Road 611 northeast of present-day MinOOKA. Passenger trains stopped there from 1868 to 1933; freight trains continued using the station until 1953. In 1910, local farmers organized a grain elevator and mill complex known as the "Fruit Belt." In 1916, they built a new schoolhouse which still stands today (now used as storage). That same year also saw the construction of a paved road between MinOOKA and Chicago that became one of Kane County's major transportation routes. The town's population grew rapidly during World War I due to its proximity to munitions plants operated by Du Pont/ Phelps Dodge Corporation; however, no permanent civilian housing appeared untilafter World War II when developers began building residential neighborhoods around industrial sites within walking distance of commercial districts such asMinooka Junction Railroad Station
