In 1863, John Aitken opened a general store on Main Street which became the nucleus for what would become Minooka's commercial district. Aitken later served as Mayor of Minooka from 1916 to 1919 and again from 1923 to 1925. In 1865, David Hogg settled on land east of Main Street and south of Third Street, establishing what would become Hoggsville. He called his community "Hogtown." By 1880, there were over 100 people living in Hogtown; it had grown to include a school and several stores. In 1888, Grady County was formed from parts of Kane and McLean Counties; Hogtown became part of Grady County. In 1915, the Illinois Railroad constructed a branch line through MinOOKA that connected with the Chicago Southern Railway mainline at Peoria (now Peoria Heights). This allowed Forney-based companies such as Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney Co., Wernham Hogg Coal Mining Company (later Peco), Paper Mill No 2 (later known as Wernham Hogg Paper Company), Eastern Tobacco Company (later Imperial Tobacco) to bring their products into town via rail instead of shipping them all the way downriver to Peoria or Rock Island Junction where they would be unloaded and then transported back upriver again for transport back home across Lake Michigan

During World War II, Minooka played an important role as a munitions production center for Allied forces located near Streator and Rockford. The town also hosted large military installations such as Fort Snelling and Camp Butler which manufactured tanks, artillery pieces, RAD radios, aircraft parts and more. After the war ended, many MinOOKA residents decided to move away from their hometown because of changing political conditions in Illinois and elsewhere across America. However, some remaining residents fought hard against gentrification andahnostgaining new rights within their old community until they finally lost everything - including their homes - when vandals spray-painted "No MoreminOOKA" on them decades later
In 1847, the first white person to settle in Minooka was W. H. Goodall. He bought two tracts of land from the Indians and built a cabin on the current site of the town. Goodall named his community after himself, Minooka, Illinois. The first store opened in 1861 and remained in operation until 1955. In 1865, Jno. Aiken donated land to the town for a public square and schoolhouse. The first post office opened in 1867 and continued operations until 1951.
