In 1827 John Davenport founded a gristmill on the north side of the river where he lived with his family until his death in 1849. His son Daniel built a log cabin on Topanga Creek about two miles east of today's town limits on land donated by pioneers Isaac Earle and Amos Hillman. This mill became one of Minooka’s most important economic engines during its early years; it produced flour, meal, butter and cheese for local markets as well asexportation to Minnesota and Wisconsin." There are so many amazing stories behind these towns that I'm sure you'll never know all of them! But here are some of my personal favorites: 1) Minooka had an active militia which fought against Native American raiders throughout much of the 1800s2) Two ladies from nearby Beatrice formed a cooperative grocery store around 19033) One hundred percent African American women worked at various businesses throughout Springfield during this time4) During World War II many locals volunteered their services including working as truck drivers, mechanics and nurses5) After experiencing rapid growth due to interstate highway construction within its borders (and outside),minOOKA lost much of its commercial significance over the next few decades6) Today there is still some residual agricultural activity taking place within town boundaries7)"In spite being surrounded by larger municipalities with more vibrant economies", minOOKA has managed to maintain close relationships with its neighboring communities9)"It’s clear that when it comes to small-town life there are few things quite as satisfying as living inside your own ZIP code!"

Minooka is an unincorporated community in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It lies east of the Chicago metropolitan area on the Kane River. The community was founded by German immigrants in 1847 and named for the small village of Minocqua on the Wisconsin coast. The community had a post office from 1887 to 1934. In 1949, it became a town when it was annexed by neighboring La Salle Township. The population of Minooka as of 2013 was 714 people.
Minooka was first settled in 1847 by James and Julia Cook. It became a town in 1871. The post office was opened in 1872, and the first school was built in 1875.
