The growth of Chicago led to decreasing agricultural production and many residents moved away for work during World War II. By 1945, the population had shrunk to just seventy-six people living within its limits. After the war ended, most residents returned and small businesses were started again around Minooka Center (now called Roosevelt Road). In 1978, however, an economic downturn caused many businesses to close and single family homes became more popular with new suburban development nearby. As a result of this change in lifestyle and 140% increase in real estate values over twenty years ago – MinOOKA has slowly lost its rural character while becoming increasingly suburbanized with no large abandoned farms or communities left behind that can be enjoyed today by locals or visitors alike.
