Minooka is a small town located in Johnson County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,045 at the 2010 census. It lies on the border of Johnson and Putnam counties. The first people to live in Minooka were the Sauk Indians. They lived along the Addison River until about 1825 when they moved to what is now Putnam County. In 1827, the white men who had been living near where Minooka now stands founded a small community called Greenfield which later became Minooka. In 1833, John Wilburn erected a log cabin on land that he owned in what is now Putnam County. He named it Greenfield after his home country of England where he had been born in 1783. The first post office was established at Greenfield in 1834 and continued operations until 1865 when it was renamed MinOOKA because mail from Illinois arrived there more frequently than at other post offices. In 1861, Colonel Augustus Kelley bought six thousand acres (24 km²) of land east of Minooka from Joshua Dixon for $2 million dollars (). This made Kelley one of the largest landowners in Johnson County and gave him control over much of what is now put together as Minooka Township (). The initial development around Kelley's land included farming, ranching and logging although some homes were built during this time period as well. By 1922, most acreage within present-day Minooka Township had been developed with housing being built on both sides of routes 87 and 95 which run through the township center; these roads are known today as Main Street and Highway 95 North respectively. Kelley died in 1926 but his estate left everything to his son Augustus who then donated most or all of what remains within present-dayMinooka Township to make it an open space preserve for public use while also providing financial assistance to various organizations including schools taxes free education for youths up through college age; this has helped keepminOOKA an attractive place to live for many years since then!

The first school opened in 1840 with three students; later schools were built here including one which still stands today (the current High School) which opened its doors to students on November 1st 1902 In 1854 Abraham Lincoln stopped at Chester Park Inn while en route from Springfield to West Point; he Noticeed a group of farmers surrounding a log cabin which had been converted into a farmhouse; he ordered them driven away and Later said "This country has potential but it will have to be worked out" In 1861 Colonel James KappBrigadier General Winfield Scott rode through Minooka while he was campaigning against General Ulysses S Grant's forces near Peoria On October 15th 1860 during an election campaign speech Senator Daniel Webster pointed out that there were 150 people living within five miles of Buffalo Grove on Lake Shore Drive — Booth famously replied "Hah! hah! How do you know? There are more people living around judgmental Buffalo Grove than there are around Washington D.C." In 1862 when Union troops marched into Knox County they burned all the homes belonging to Confederate sympathizers — although some residents managed to rebuild quickly enough– One such resident was Mrs Samuell Caulkins who moved her family from Bloomington IL back home just outsideminOOKA so she could start afresh
