Dixon was a member of the Second County Board of Commissioners and he developed the idea to start a magazine to keep track of all the new guns being brought into the county. The first issue of Gun Magazine was published on July 1, 1847. At that time, there were only 12 handguns in Minooka and 8 rifles. There were no shotguns at that time. The popularity of pistols led to the development of Shotgun Magazine in 1850. Shotgun Magazine became very popular because they allowed people to own two guns instead of one and they allowed people to carry more than one gun with them at once. In 1862, Gun Magazine merged with Rifle & Pistol magazine and it became known as Rifle & Gun magazine. It remained an independent publication until 1978 when it merged with Ammo Supply Company’s ammunition shop journal which then became known as Ammo magazines Incorporated (AMCo). The popularity of handguns led to the development of what is now called “firearms magazines” which are usually just store-bought copies or copies made by someone who has never even fired a gun before! These magazines are designed just for buying new firearms rather than any kind of collection or historical significance. The oldest firearm magazines still extant are those created by Amos Dixon back in 1847!

Minooka is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,581 at the 2010 census. The name of the town is from the Sioux language meaning "place where there are trees" and it was given to the community by its founders. The first settlers in Minooka were Quakers who arrived in 1837. The community grew rapidly due to the railroad being built through the area in 1854-55 and various industries sprang up around it such as meatpacking, flour milling, paper manufacturing and shoe stores. In 1907, Minooka became one of twenty towns formed into the new village of Arlington Heights with a population of 2,619. In 1960 Arlington Heights merged with nearby minooka to form Minooka-Arlington Heights which still has a population over 1,581 today. Today most of what used to be industries have moved out or been bought by other companies but there are still a few businesses that bring employment to locals such as Chevrolet dealership and agriculture company Frisco Farms Incorporated which grows corn and soybeans for local feeds as well as providing jobs for many people in this small town that is close to both Chicago and St Louis. One thing that has not changed much since 1960 is that people here value their social club called "The Glee Club" very highly which meets every weeknight inside The Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Main Street near where all grocery store bags go into storage each morning before they're distributed throughout day again!
