Melrose Park is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 54,871 at the 2010 census. It borders the cities of Chicago and Oak Lawn to the north and east, and Rockford to the south. The first Europeans to visit what is now Melrose Park were French traders in 1673. In 1812, General James K. Polk passed through this area on his way from Nauvoo to Chicago; he stopped at an Indian camp on the banks of the Fox River where he met future President Ulysses S. Grant. He named one of his goals for his administration "the improvement of all sections of our common country." In 1836, John Pritzker purchased land along what is now Western Avenue in what later became Melrose Park from John Nevin and others in a deed that included gift of 1/2 acre (0.14 ha) per family every two years until it was sold for $500 ($ million today). By 1840, Pritzker had built a gristmill on site which served as both a millinery store and residential district known as "Pritzkerville". In 1863-64, Mayor George Hennepin submitted plans for an experimental steamboat service between Milwaukee and Chicago via Lake Michigan based on Captain George Stephenson's successful experiment with boat travel across London's Thames during that year. The plans were abandoned when railroad construction began across town although some speculation exists that Hennepin may have been motivated by Stephenson's achievement rather than any commercial considerations

This type of magazine was quickly replaced by the later Model 1911 pistol magazine which held nine rounds in each chamber and had a capacity of twenty-four rounds. Rifles also took on magazines as they became more popular. The first rifles to use a detachable box magazine were the Winchester Model 1886 (1887) and Winchester Model 1893 (1894). These guns used an interlocking system where each round would be stored inside the barrel within a metal case thatlectrified when you pulled the charging handle back to load it into the gun. As these guns gained popularity, so too did their need for magazines witha large number of rounds available at any given time. In 1903, Winchester introduced its “Grand National” Rifle model which featured an action that allowed multiple shots to be fired at once using only one mag
