Melrose Park, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 606 at the 2010 census. It is located on the border of Cook and DuPage counties. The name "Melrose Park" comes from a small settlement in the area called "Milton". Milton was named after Robert Melrose, an early settler who platted what is now Melrose Park in 1814. The first post office in the town was established in 1818. The village of Milton developed around Melrose Park, and it became a separate municipality in 1893. The village merged with the town of Melrose Park on December 1, 1914. On April 14, 1928, the towns of North Aurora and South Aurora were merged into Melrose Park to form a new borough with a population of 1,362 people. On July 6, 2009, residents of Burr Ridge and parts of Morton Grove voted to become their own municipalities within Cook County independent from Melrose Park due to concerns about increased highway traffic into their villages. On November 3rd 2009 they received news that this move would not be allowed by county officials as they felt that it would undermine efforts to maintain peace and order within the township while also violating state law which requires two-thirds approval for any such changes by referendum/township board members

Melrose Park, Illinois is a neighborhood in the city of Chicago. It is located on the Northwest Side, and was once one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Chicago. The area now known as Melrose Park was first settled by German immigrants in 1859. The name comes from a small wooded community near Pritzker Military Field on Melrose Avenue in Westchester County, New York. The first post office in what is now Melrose Park was established on December 17, 1860, and received its initial mail from Peoria, Illinois. However, the population of this small community did not grow until after the American Civil War ended in 1865. In 1872, when Congress created Grant Township (now DuPage County), it included all of present-day Melrose Park and portions of Glencoe and Ravenswood townships east of Kildare Boulevard. AfterGrant Township was disbanded in 1909, most of what is now Melrose Park became part of Cook County (which at that time consisted only of the City of Chicago). In 1878*, a group led by Edwin Hesseltine purchased 1/2 mile (1 km) north of where Wabash Avenue crosses Mt Prospect Road from land patented to them by Daniel Webster*—the first section ever surveyed for township development under Section 8 OF THE ACT OF MAY 14th DATED AUGUST 16th WILLIAM PHILLIPS*—from John McClure*. The plat for this large tract show 3 Lots: 20 X 30 feet; each 10 feet wide & 6 feet deep *(See map attached). This purchase marked an important turning point for these Germans who had been pioneer farmers since their arrival in America more than 50 years earlier *. Fredrich Koch† bought out Hesseltine’s group soon afterwards and developed much larger tracts which are still extant today within our limits*. Mr. Koch also founded modern day McCormick Place along with other prominent Chicagoans such as John Leland† and Julius Rosenwald† during this time period *. Today’s Metropole Shopping Center on Michigan Ave., JUST SIDE OF KNOXVILLE SQUARE makes a perfect example as to how even today numerous families continue to reside & shop close to home primarily due to excellent public transportation options available nearby!
The Melrose Park area was once a part of the town of Peoria, Illinois. The first post office in this area was established on December 8, 1836. The population of Peoria grew rapidly during the 1830s and 1840s, so a new town was needed to accommodate the growth. On January 1, 1846, the town of Melrose Park was officially incorporated. It became one of the larger towns in Kane County when it was annexed by Chicago on March 3, 1847.
