From that point on, Maywood was known for being one of the leading retailers of astronomical products. In 1952, Edwin Hubble began using the store’s equipment to develop his space-based observatory at Mount Wilson Observatory. This led to wider use ofMaywood telescopes by astronomers all over the world. In 1995, Maywood became a subsidiary of The Orion Company. That year saw the launch of The Hubble Space Telescope (HST), which made it possible for us to see more distant objects than ever before. Maywood is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 12,507 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Maywood is one of the oldest towns in Illinois and has been around since 1815. Maywood was first settled by families who arrived from New England in the early 1800s. The first post office opened in 1824, and it remained open until 1892. In 1886, Maywood became one of five townships in Cook County when it was created from parts of the former village of Ottawa. The town was named for John Greenleaf Whittier, an American author and poet who lived in nearby Burlingame during the mid-19th century. whittier's home still stands today on Elm Street just south of Main Street. In 1903, Maywood erected a tower on its square courthouse lawn to serve as a symbol of community unity and progressiveness. The current courthouse dates back to 1907 and is one of only two original buildings remaining from that time period in Maywood (the other being the old schoolhouse). The first post office closed in 1992; however, mail continued to be delivered through personal delivery until 1995 when USPS took over operation of postal service within Cook County . Spotting scopes has been a part of mankind since the ancient Greeks. Spotting scopes were used to view objects at a great distance and were also used for hunting. One of the first spotting scopes was called an aida, which was made from wood and had a viewing window on one side. The other side was used for holding the eyepiece in place. The use of sighting tools allowed people to target their hunts much better than using bows and arrows. With advances in technology, spotting scopes became more accurate and efficient. In 1885, Edwin Ayer developed a new type of spotting scope that could be adjusted to have multiple magnification levels. This gave people the ability to see details at different distances much better than before. The development of zoom lenses also allowed people to see detail at close range much better than before. Spotting scopes gradually lost popularity as they became less accurate and required more time to spot targets than bows and arrows did. However, with the invention of digital technology, spotting scopes are slowly becoming popular again due to their ease of use and accuracy

Maywood, Illinois is a township in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,902 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago Metropolitan Area. The name "Maywood" was first given to the village by David Maynard in 1836 as part of a land grant to him from President James K. Polk. The Village of Maywood was organized on April 12, 1837 and named for David Maynard. On October 15, 1863, the village merged with neighboring West Side Settlement to form what is now known as Maywood Township. According to the 2010 census, there are 1,902 people living in Township: 711 (of whom were male) and 669 (of whom were female). Of these 1,902 residents: 914 (of which were white) lived in the unincorporated portions of Township; 287 (of which were black) lived in other parts of Kane County or within 10 miles of Chicago; and 61 (of which were Native American) lived on or near Indian Reservations managed bythe Bureau of Indian Affairs
Maywood, Illinois was founded in 1812. The community was named for General James May, a British general who fought in the War of 1812.
