These boundaries do not reflect any real estate boundaries that exist today within these communities or within Sangamon County itself; they are simply based on where certain tracts line up geographically with certain land parcels that have been sold to developers over time. Maywood was a small, rural town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. It is located on the banks of the Maywood River. The population was 992 at the 2010 census. Until 1848, Maywood was part of what is now Dearborn Township. In that year, it became a part of Park Ridge Township. In 1868, it merged with neighboring village of West Maywood to form what is now Maywood Village. In 1907, much of the original village site were destroyed by a fire that burned for days after being set by two teenagers who had been expelled from their high school in nearby West Parkridge Township. Of the original buildings only a few remain standing today: The old post office and bank building (now used as apartments), and a few residences on the north side of Main Street between Third and Fourth Streets. The town center was built around an old train depot which served as both its commercial and social center until it closed in 1994 due to declines in business and population growth across Illinois statewide since then; however some remnants still stand including some large Georgian Revival style homes along Main Street near Third Street which date back to 1915-1920 while other smaller buildings have been replaced or demolished over time including most notably the old Presbyterian church built in 1927-1929 which still stands today next to its predecessor’s Community Hall complex (built in 1902).
