Maywood is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,835 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Maywood was founded in 1837 and became a city in 1961. The name "Maywood" comes from an early settler's description of the area as being "a beautifully situated village on the west bank of the River Raisin." The first permanent settler in what is now Maywood was John Farnham, who arrived from Connecticut in 1837. He built a log cabin on what is now Elm Street and named it Farnham Place after his home state. By 1840, other settlers had started to arrive and by 1845 there were 10 houses in the village. In 1861, Maywood became a city under the terms of an Act of Congress approved on December 2nd, 1860. On that date Chicago annexed much of northern Cook County including Maywood and its surrounding townships. In 1867-68 local clergyman Revs James Kellar (later Bishop) and George Glynn organized two meetings which resulted in forming a Town Council with five members as well as providing for streetlights and fire hydrants throughout town In 1915 Mayor John Jaffe appointed Wm Hynes as mayor pro tempore due to lack of candidates for election that year In 1924 Mayor Harry Giuliani increased police presence during prohibition raids which caused some tension between him and Homecoming parade organizers

Maywood, Illinois is a small town located in rural Kane County, Illinois. The population was 7,521 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1853 by people from Michigan and Ohio. Maywood is known for its large and well-preserved oak trees and its rich history. The first settler to come to Maywood was John Stephenson in 1853. He built a cabin on the east side of the community and named it Stephensonville after himself. Maywood grew slowly until 1871, when a group of farmers led by John Hickey bought land adjacent to Stephensonville and began to build a town there. They named their new settlement Maywood after General George Washington's home state of Virginia. The town quickly became an important center for trade and culture in Kane County during the late 19th century. In 1892, the Chicago, Rock Island & Northern Railroad arrived in Maywood with plans to build a line from Chicago to Hammondsport through the community. However, because of local opposition, the railroad never reached Maywood. Instead, it built tracks northward near Aurora before leaving again several years later. During World War II, many residents chose not to evacuate during the great Midwest air raids of 1944-1945; they instead gathered around their homes providing resistance against Japanese forces while they were still widespread across India and China. This decision has been cited as one of the most important aspects of post-World War II life in Maywood - despite some negative comments about "the Knowleses" (as these residents were called) throughout the decades since their surrender." After 1945, however, many people left for various reasons including suburbanization or jobs out south due to technological advancements which made farm production more difficult than ever before; furthermore, bars opened up all over Illinois which attracted younger generations who wanted something more 'tactical'.
