This technology was eventually adapted and developed into what is now called a gun light. One of the earliest examples of a firearm using an internal light source was the Rifled Rocket Gun, which was invented by Samuel Colt in 1857. The revolver utilizing this type of weapon had an revolving barrel filled with small rockets that could be fired at will from either hand without reloading; these weapons were particularly effective against game animals such as deer and turkey due to their low recoil operation. Maywood is a small village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 2,031 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Maywood was founded in 1881 by George Will and his wife Elizabeth Bird Will. The original name for the community was "Island Grove." The Village of Maywood came into being on April 15, 1881, when George Will and his wife Elizabeth Bird Will were driving from their home in Island Grove to Maywood to get water for their cows when they saw a piece of land that looked like it might be suitable for a settlement. They bought the land and named it after themselves - “Maywood” meaning "settlement" or "bridge over" in English. At first, the town consisted only of George's house and some outbuildings. But within a few months, other residents had arrived including John Hennessey and his family who had moved from Farmington (now an adjacent village). By 1882, there were six houses with gardens - three for Mr. Hennessey and three for Mrs. Hennessey - plus two barns and a blacksmith shop/shop-cum-laboratory where people baked bread daily using an oven started by Mr. Hennessey himself.. In 1886 local physician Drury built a hospital on one corner of lot #5 which still stands today as the Memorial Hospital! In 1901 Commodore James Pohl donated land north of Main Street to build what would become Pohl Park; this park includes portions of both Bulldog Lake Tennis Center & Grosse Pointe Woods Golf Course which opened in 2002! Finally in 1922 Maywood School District No 1 merged with neighboring Glenbard East School District to form North Side High School District No 1! In 1931 First National Bank building burned down leaving no physical evidence but postcards survive that show locals going about their lives without any worry about what happened next! This event created fear among many as it demonstrated just how easily banks can go out of business in these days! The bank reopened shortly afterwards with new funding . . . but unfortunately another fire destroyed much of downtown Maywood overnight around 1933 leaving little reconstruction possible! With all these fires happening during those years (& many more following), streetlights became necessary due to concerns about arson bombings!!! A group led by Vice President Richard Nixon campaigned against city hall fireworks display because they felt this caused too much destruction not needing nighttime illumination; this campaign resulted in city council approving night time fireworks displays without further vote!!! All kidding aside though – thank you Dick Nixon (& others) for helping make history!!!!!!!!! The population peaked at 2,604 at the 2000 census but has gradually declined since then due mainly to commuting reasons & suburban development nearby (the village now consists mostly of single-family homes). At present there are only hundred or so people living within walking distance of most businesses serving townspeople such as grocery stores, churches etc...AID has been providing food assistance thru WIC since 2006

Maywood was a small village located in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,083 at the 2010 census. It is now part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in Maywood was John Haggerty, who arrived in 1827. He and his family were among the earliest farmers in that area and built a cabin on what is now Main Street. Haggerty's son-in-law, Elijah Dearborn, also settled there in 1837 and became one of Maywood's early business owners. In 1851, Dearborn donated land to build the Village Hall which still stands today. The first school opened in1857 and served grades K through 12 until 1959 when it merged with Cook Elementary School to form Maywood Community Schools. According to the 2010 census, Maywood had a total area of , of which (or 98%) was land and (or 2%) was water. As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,055 people residing in town: 614 households out of which 309 (35%) had children under age 18 living with them; 478 families (75%); all males over 60 years old Formatted as married couples only 5 times; 0% unmarried men under age 18 living with them; 3% single women over age 18 living with them; all blacks alone or mixed race 9 times; 0% Native Americans alone or mixed race once
