Maywood, Illinois is a small town in the northwest corner of Cook County, Illinois. It is located on the north side of the Chicago metropolitan area and on the east side of the smaller Maywood-Riverside community. The population was 9,575 at the 2010 census. The Village of Maywood was incorporated in 1909. The first European settlers in what is now Maywood were Frenchmen who established a fur trading post there in 1795. A group of Dutch men also settled there early on, but they abandoned it after being driven out by Native Americans. In 1813, General James K. Polk sent General David Dixon to survey an route for a new military road from St Louis to Cairo through central Illinois; Dixon's party reached Maywood on November 3, 1813, and found no dwellings or other evidence that humans had ever set foot in what is now Maywood Township. It wasn't until 1836 that anyone began living permanently in what is now Maywood Township; when George Stephenson built his railroad line through that area he founded Sheffield Junction station just outside present-day Maywoods limits. At first all traffic went via Sheffield Junction to Racine because that was where goods brought over the tracks were unloaded and stored before being transported onward to larger towns like Decatur or Rockford; however, as railway companies became more efficient and hauled heavier loads longer distances (e.g., grain down to Chicago), Sheffield Junction became increasingly impractical as aloading point for small villages likeMayWOOD Stationexcept during special holiday periods when business was so brisk that nothing could be done at all south of Racine! In 1892 John Gage opened his general store at 5th Street & Wabash Avenue which soon became known as "Gage's grocery". By 1907 it had grown into one of Illinois' largest grocery stores with over 200 employees including several women Employees! Gage died suddenly at age 80 years old on January 7th 1908 leaving behind many family businesses including his grocery store which continued until 1964 with two daughters running it jointly together until their husbands passed away both times! Today Gage's grocery still stands proud serving its customers today offshoot store called "John Gages Post" next door! On July 4th 1907 an event occurred which would change not only maywoods history but also our understanding about America itself: President William McKinley was assassinated while attending an outdoor picnic near Buffalo Grove ILJointly with Mayor John Collins we formed a Police Athletic Association (PAA)to provide law enforcement services during those days when crime seemed almost impossible to prevent! This event made us stronger as individuals and helped make our town one step forward towards becoming one big American melting pot thanks in part to our PAA members!

Maywood, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,651 at the 2010 census. It lies in the far northwest corner of the state and is bordered by Armour to the east and north, LaPorte to the west and south, Rockford to the southeast and southwest, and Chicago to the south. The Town of Maywood was founded on July 3rd 1848 by John Hickey as a place for farmers who had scattered around rural Cook County after being driven out of their homes during the great Black Hawk War. The name derived from two maple trees that grew near his home on North Main Street. In 1850s Maywood acquired some land along State Road 12 which became its main street. For many years it was one of only a few villages in Cook County with a schoolhouse (the first one being Plainfield). In 1957 Maywood's history was documented when preservationists began restoration work on nearby Plainfield School District No. 2's historic district (then known as "Old Township"). That same year local historian Don Sisko published an article about town's early days entitled "A Pioneer Village: A History of Maywood" which helped reignite interest in town history among residents and visitors alike. Since then much has been done to maintain original structures such as Cloverdale Elementary School which still stands today thanks to its highly visible plaza; Old Township Hall; or even more recently Porters Tavern which underwent significant renovation in 2013-2014 including new flooring, walls & ceilings among other updates! But what makes this community so special? Well really just about everyone here seems quite passionate about something - whether it be cooking up some good old fashioned American cuisine at their house or keeping things interesting with active involvement in many different organizations like Rotary/Ladies Auxiliary Club; Historical Society; Chamber of Commerce; Lions Club...the list goes on! This village truly has something for everyone!

The town was founded in 1836 by the Potawatomi people and has been a major center of Indian culture and politics for many years.
