In 1957, another new type ofweapon flashlight was developed by Raymond Vail called the “Vail-Crispin”.It used mercury vapor lamps with a range of up to 300 feet. In 1966,another new typeofweapon flashlightwasdevelopedbyHarryHoudinicalledtheHoudini-BrowningHiPower’scan emittingamultifunctionedlampwitharangeofupto500feet.(see diagram below) Later on in 1969, anothernewtypeofweaponflashlightwasdevelopedbyDonPeelecalledthePeele-Kingman’scan usingaheliumfilledtubewitharangeofupto1000ft.(see diagrambelow) In 1970, another newtypeofweaponflashlightwasdevelopedbyDonald PeelecalledthePeele-Stroudlightscanusinganelectricbulbandamagnifiedbeamwitharangeofuponto2000ft.(see diagrambelow) The list goes on and on with different types of weapon flashlights being developed over time! Mattoon is a small town in the Illinois Country region of the United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Mattoon is located in southern Cook County. It is about 25 miles east of Chicago and 50 miles west of Springfield. The first settler in Mattoon was David Prentice, who arrived in 1836. In 1847, John Geddes settled here and built a log cabin on what is now Main Street. Geddes became one of the first farmers in Mattoon and his family raised corn, wheat, hogs, pigs, chickens and cattle until 1865 when he sold his land to John Fenton for $1,000. Fenton also founded a sawmill which remains today as the town's only business enterprise. In 1872 Morrill Land Grant No. 9 was issued to Nathan Hutton which included much of present-day Mattoon including what are now Main Street and Eastern Avenue (now First Avenue). In 1875 Hutton donated land to build a school on North Third Street which would serve as the nucleus for what would become Mattoon High School; today’s high school building was completed in 1886 after being designed by George French & Sons architects with help from American Institute of Architects member Owen Wrightson. During World War I local soldiers served as "Lincoln Log Men" cutting logs for Wernher von Braun's rocket laboratory at Peenemunde Air Base outside Berlin Germany while living nearby on Elmwood Drive (today's Elmwood Shopping Center). After the war many residents returned home to rebuild their lives but some remain here through agriculture or other businesses that have thrived over time such as pet supply store/ breeder/feeder shop/gas station etc.. Mattoon has been host to many significant events throughout its history most notably being chosen by Sears Roebuck & Co., Incorporated as one of twelve towns across America where they established their regional headquarters during 1981-1982 expanding operations into Illinois due to rising industry costs elsewhere following technological advancements during that time period - this event also helped bring major economic development growth to Mattoon once again! In early November 2018 it was announced that Apple had purchased Apple Park Foxconn facilities near Danville IL from China telecom giant Huawei for an undisclosed amount making it one of largest technology deals ever made - bringing new life and hope back into this small town after years being ravaged by low jobs and poverty rates thanks largely to offshoring during those years!

Only a few homes remained standing after war’s end; however, many buildings remain extant today as part of downtown Mattoon’s cultural heritage.
Mattoon was founded in 1837 by Levi Matteson. The town was named after Matteson's ancestor, Solomon Matteson. The first post office opened in 1838. In 1861, the Union Pacific Railroad arrived in Mattoon and started construction of its line from Peoria to Joliet. The railroad helped drive a small towns growth and made Mattoon one of the most important railroads in the area. The population of Mattoon increased rapidly during the early 20th century due to its location on the Illinois Central Railroad and its role as a transportation hub for eastern Illinois. In 1912, Mattoon was designated as a city by state government and experienced significant growth with waves of new residents coming to town because of its many opportunities foremployment and commerce. In 1966, when Interstate 84 was constructed through central Illinois, bypassingMattoon entirely, the city's largest employer relocated to nearby Elginburg-Onalaska-Mellon Junction creating an almost direct link between Chicago and Indianapolis without ever having to cover more than two miles of countryside
