Matteson, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 362 at the 2010 census. Matteson is located on the north side of Chicago. It is bordered by the towns of Bartlett to the east and Mokena to the south. The name Matteson comes from "matto" or "mattress", meaning "bridge over". In 1837, Seminary Road was laid out through Matteson Township and named for Rev. John A. Matteson (1792-1868), an Episcopal priest who had served as missionary bishop in Canada and then as pastor of a small Methodist church in Joliet, Illinois before moving to Matteson in 1827. The first post office opened in 1839 and was renamed Southeast Michigan Street in 1862 after James Hutton Stevenson, Jr., Postmaster General of the United States during President Abraham Lincoln's first term (1861-1865). In 1886, a railway station was built at present-day Matteson with tracks leading to it from Belmont Avenue on the north side of Chicago just west of State Street. railroad traffic stopped at this station until 1925 when it reopened as part of Pullman Railway Company Line 1 which ran between Wheaton Junction on the South Side and downtown Chicago via three stations: Belmont Avenue (on what is now Milwaukee Avenue), Ravenswood Avenue (now Irving Park Road), and Western Ave.(now West Harrison Street). In 1927, all three stations were combined into one at present-day Northwest Side Station which served both Pullman Railway Line 1 and local trains running from Loop lines 2 and 3 into downtown Chicago; today that station serves only Loop Line 1 trains. During World War II most residents worked for Wernher Von Braun's American Rocket Lab plant near Rockford IL; many people also lived outside town on farms or rural properties using their own water power generators for heating, lighting/ cooling needs etc.. The plant closed down following World War II but left behind extensive infrastructure including two high school campuses housing about 4500 students/faculty members; four hospitals; numerous industrial parks including one near Gurnee IL where Chrysler manufactured its new range of cars called series CX1s – these cars are still produced today

Matteson is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,895 at the 2010 census. Matteson is located in the east side of Chicago and is bordered to the north by Romeoville and to the south by Maywood. The first settler in Matteson was John J. Matteson who arrived there on October 8, 1836. He took up land that later became part of Romeoville Township. A post office called Matteson had been established in 1839, but it was discontinued in 1847 because of lack of voters. In 1870, William Matson purchased 1/4 mile (0.6 km) of grant from Jesse Hockaday for $50 dollars. In 1871, he bought an additional three-quarters mile (1 km) for $75 dollars from Augustus Kingsey Wright Jr.. In 1893, lawyer George Wertz bought 10 acres (4 ha) near present day Northwestern Memorial Hospital for $2 ($ today). From 1895 until his death in 1913, Drury Wertz ran a dispensary here which served as a model for many health care clinics around the world including those at Mayo Clinic and Harvard Medical School. On November 20th 1915 local residents voted not to annex their neighboring town of Maywood into Matteson due to its high school’s enrollment surpassing that of their original community with only 7 students instead of 30+. This event helped keep Matteson as an independent municipality until 1964 when it merged with Chicago into one city under Mayor Richard Daley's plan known as "the Great Transformation". The economic downturn during the late 1990s caused Matteson to lose much jobs andResidents have faced dwindling resources such as no bus service or even water access since then making public services more difficult than ever before To make up for lost time residents have taken up art and architecture as hobbies while trying to maintain some level of normalcy they hope will return soon
On November 3, 1871, Matteson was incorporated as a village. On January 1, 1971, it became a town.
