Matteson, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 26,057 at the 2010 census. It is the tenth-largest city in Illinois and the second-largest city on the Chicago metropolitan area. Matteson is also one of two cities in Cook County with a population over 100,000 (the other being Chicago). The site of Matteson's founding was a boggy region near the mouth of the Des Plaines River. In 1834, millionaire George Wirtemann purchased 640 acres (2 km²) of this land to erect an orange orchard. By 1835, Wirtemann had built a mill and Growling Mill Road linked his orchard with a canal system that connected Lake Michigan to the Mississippi River. In 1857, John Prentice bought 3/8 mile (1 km²) east of Matteson from George Atherton for $5 per acre (0.25 per sq ft). This tract became known as Prairie du Chien because it lay between two ridges of large limestone boulders that were still standing at about 1 foot (30 cm) high in 1909 when Prentice donated them to Matteson Township. Two years later he sold another tract east of Prairie du Chien for $15 per acre ($0.53 per sq ft), which became known as Oak Park after him and his brother Owen O'Neal Livingstone developed it into an amusement park called "The Oaks." The first post office opened in Matteson on November 15th, 1874 under the name "Prairie du Chien". The name changed to "Matteson" on July 4th, 1898; this was due to Mayor James Jenssen's initiative following complaints from residents about what they saw as confusion among their local officials with respect to their new town's name. This period marked some important milestones for mattisonians: John Haggerty founded Haggerty Tire & Rubber Company here in 1903; electric lights were first turned on in downtown mattison by General Electric president Franklin D Roosevelt on September 22nd 1926; and Sears Roebuck & Co.'s opening night store here attracted more than 150 people including President Coolidge

The Python was an all-steel rifle that used a gas-operated action with a 5.56 mm barrel. It featured a folding stock and was chambered for the .308 Winchester cartridge.
