That business closed around 1858 when the other stores started opening up throughout the area surrounding the original village site. In 1870, an act of Congress authorized erection of a school district within Cook County which included Markham; this school district became known as Chicago High School District No. 1 (CHSD1). In 1927, CHSD1 merged with Normal School District #2 to form University of Chicago School District No. 1 (UCSD1). This same year saw construction begin on what would become one of Chicago's most famous landmarks: The world’s first airship hangar – Grant Park – located just east of downtown on Wabash Avenue near Oak Lawn Avenue. This began an era where large amounts of cargo were transported by airboat across Lake Michigan without having to land or ferry goods ashore..
