Marion, Illinois is a small town located in the Sangamon County, Illinois region. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,011. The village of Marion was founded in 1848 by United States citizens John Hargrave and his wife Lucy. The current form of Marion was created in 1920 when the village of Arlington merged with Marion. The Village of Marion is located adjacent to what is now known as Downtown Chicago. It is bordered by Wabash Avenue on the south side and State Street on the west side. One major avenue that runs through Marion is Niles Drive which connects it to downtown Chicago. Downtown Indianapolis also borders Marion on one side and North Side Township on the other side which provides access to Interstate 70 and I-465 from both sides of town. There are several restaurants and shopping areas within walking distance of each other including: anchored by Sears & Roebuck across State Street from City Hall; King's Chinese Buffet at 11th and Michigan streets NW; Starbucks at 30th Street/State Street SW; Dunkin' Donuts at 54th Street/State Street SE; and JCPenney at Dearborn Avenue/University Place NE

Parker’s Gun Company was founded in 1849 by Hiram Smith Parker to produce this type of weapon. The first muzzleloader rifle was created in 1857 by Samuel Colt using an 8mm pistol cartridge called “the black powder Rifle model 1851”
In 1933, the first airguns were developed by a group of engineers working at the US Army Air Forces’ Wright-Patterson Laboratories. These guns used Diel gunpowder cartridges which were reloaded manually with a thumb safety. The first successful tests of these pistols were conducted in 1934. The next year, the US military began to purchase large quantities of these guns for use in fighter planes. In 1935, the US Air Force issued its own regulations governing airguns and in 1936, standard dimensions for all types of airguns were established. That same year, interest in these guns waned after World War II began and they were gradually replaced by other types of firearms.
In 1848, the town of Marion was founded in Northwestern Illinois. It quickly grew to become a thriving city and became one of the most important wagon towns in the Midwest. In 1862, after the American Civil War ended, Marion became a county seat and continued to grow as a center for agriculture and business. The population reached over 10,000 by 1900. After World War I, Marion grew even more rapidly as businesses moved out of town and residents turned their attention to agricultural pursuits. By 1930, the city had nearly doubled its size and was home to over 25,000 people. Today, Marion is an anchor community for rural Illinois with strong ties to its surrounding communities.
Founded in 1848, Marion was the first village in Illinois. It became a town in 1868. The opening of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad in 1879 made Marion an important city. In 1910, it became the capital of Illinois.
