Macomb is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and the county seat of Oakland County. The population was 77,913 at the 2010 census[2] and 82,812 as of 2019[3]. It is part of the Detroit metropolitan area. The first permanent European settlers were French colonists who arrived in 1796. In 1800, Macomb was incorporated as a town under the name Dearborn Heights. The township contained only 10 residents when it became part of Clinton Township on December 12, 1807. On March 30, 1825, Dearborn Heights was reincorporated as Macomb Township with a population of 506 residents[4][5]. On January 1, 1837,[6] Macomb was made an independent city by act of Congress.[7][8] It had a population of 41,745 according to the 1880 census but grew rapidly to over 100,000 by 1890[9]. One year later it became one of the ten cities in Michigan that were consolidated into Detroit Municipal Court on July 1st. During World War I (1914-18), there were many munitions plants located in Macomb and other Midwestern towns such as Stenhouse Archipelago Arsenal near Flint and Battle Creek which handled munitions for both Allied and German forces during World War I. After World War II ended this production stopped although some plants still operate today including Republic Iron Works headquarters in Eastland Township which processes aluminum cans for distribution throughout North America

Macomb is a city in the northwestern corner of Illinois, United States. The population was 23,836 at the 2010 census. Macomb is the county seat of Wayne County and part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The city is home to the University of Michigan and other major universities. The area that would become Macomb was first settled by German immigrants in 1809. In 1818, John Pemberton founded what would become Detroit with land he had purchased from the Ottawas. It wasn't until 1834 that Macomb was established as a town when Stephen Foster donated land to the village for development into an agricultural town known as "Macombe". In 1868, after Michigan's admission into the Union, Macombsans voted to make their city official. On November 14th, 1870, Mayor Augustus Kelley announced that "Macombsa" had been chosen as the new name for their growing municipality on behalf of President Ulysses S Grant who was visiting Michigan at this time. In 1898–99 during World War I it became capital of Wayne County and then again in 1921–22 when it became county seat whenmuskegon Heights (now Warren) were combined with Macombsa Township to form that county’s first district courthouse complex; however both buildings were razed by order of Judge Roy Bean in 1922 because they represented an unconstitutional attempt by local officials to outshine neighboring Muskegon Heights which had been designated as “the metropolis” of western Wayne County due largely to its burgeoning commercial activity since post-Civil War times." It should be noted that these events took place more than seventy years afterMacombsa first received municipal status through nomination from City Councilmember Augustus Kelley! However even if we accept Mayor Kelley's claim as fact - still less likely given his personal history - this still leaves us with one question: Why did Judge Roy Bean have such a negative reaction towards Municipalities being formed within his own judicial district? If Justice Bean thought Municipalities were outshining his fellow judges – surely he would not have allowed businesses within Municipalities or attempted to erase others altogether? Given our current understanding about Municipal government - including recent rulings by federal court justices – it seems most unlikely that Judge Roy Bean felt any differently about Municipalities than he does about traditional township governments which are constitutionally authorized under state law?
In 1847, Macomb County was formed from a portion of Cook County. In 1868, the county seat was moved to the town of West Bloomfield. The county was elevated to a U.S. state in 1913 and has since kept its independent streak.
