Macomb, Illinois is a small town located in the Kalamazoo-Portage County region of Michigan. The population was 8,500 at the 2010 census. Macomb was founded in 1835 and became a city in 1907. It is the only municipality in Michigan with a population over 10,000. The area that now makes up Macomb was first inhabited by the Potawatomi people. During the early 1800s, this area became part of what would become Michigan Territory. In 1836, Congress created Kalamazoo County and included Macomb within it as one of its initial townships. In 1839, construction began on what would become the first courthouse in Macomb. The building still stands today and is used as a community center and library. The town hall also served as the local court house from 1861 to 1907. During World War I, Macombs did not participate in hostilities but were exempt from military service because they were citizens of Indiana instead of Kansas Territory which was then part of Mexico City at that time due to Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo). A post office called "Macombs" was established in 1865, and remained open until it discontinued operations in 1927. As one of few municipalities statewide without any streetcar service before 1923 (the first municipality to receive such service), macombs residents relied on horse-drawn carriages for transportation until 1925 when electrification began on all main lines within Michigan including those serving Macombs & neighboring communities like Hollandale & Stonington-on-the-Hudson River settlements along Lake Huron (effectively making macombs an island). Macomb is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 25,553 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Macomb was founded in 1814 by Scottish immigrants and became a village in 1847. The name derived from the nearby pass that linked Canada with Michigan and was known as "The Great Macomb Gap." The first settler in what would become Macomb Township (later Macomb County) was John Day, who arrived in 1814 from Scotland. Other early settlers included James Stewart (1815), Alexander Robertson (1816), David Dunham (1820), and John Krieger (1821). In 1847, the township was organized as a village. That year, it had a population of 121 residents. In 1861, when Illinois became an all-black state, white supremacists rioted outside the African American community's polling place; 10 black people were killed and 140 injured. Five years later, on November 7, 1865 – one day after Abraham Lincoln's assassination – white supremacists burned down two businesses in central Macombsville for displaying Confederate flags; no injuries occurred. White mobs lynched nine black men and boys across Illinois during this period; four died from their wounds pending trial or execution. In 1914–1965 (*the late 1800s untilable only by boat*) local businessman Harry Smith donated land to be used as part of a new airport following World War I.* By 1925† [*just before WWI*], MACOMB had acquired its present-day site.* Air travel through Mackinac Island Airport began on October 2nd 1945 when Douglas DC-3 pilots flew into MacArthur Municipal Airport with General Eisenhower on board to meet him there.* On May 6th 1946*, locals made history when they voted to annex Grayslake Township which separated from Macombsville unofficially* *This annexation eventually led to Grayslake becoming its own municipality within Cook County c1990s under George W Bush’s presidency

The area that is now Macomb was part of the Great Lakes region until the early 1800s, when it began to be settled by Europeans. In 1824, General James McLean purchased a tract of land northwest of Detroit and named it after himself, "McLean's Point." This location became the nucleus of what would become Macomb County and its major industry was agriculture until World War II.
