Gun targets were a popular pastime in Macomb, Illinois until the late 1800s. Target shooters would take to the fields or woods near their homes for hours on end, competitors challenging each other to hit as many targets as possible. The target shooting sport quickly gained popularity and began to be sanctioned by local clubs. In 1902, the first national championship event was held at a local fairgrounds and gunners from all over America participated. Today, target shooting is a cherished tradition in Macomb and around the country.

The first gun target in Macomb was a 20-gauge shotgun at the old Brown & Williamson store on State Street. The store was closed in 1954, and the gun target has been MIA since then. In 1955, an Elkhart Township man built his own hunting cabin on a small piece of property off County Road 620 east of town. The first target to be shot at this location was a .22 caliber rifle by John A. Kappan on November 12, 1955. Kappan had purchased the land from Harry Wirthman in 1945 for $500 cash and had installed a 40-foot monopod to hold the rifle. He also built two shelters for use as shooting galleries and constructed four bunkers around the property for protection against game animals. On October 17, 1959, when Second Amendment Gun Owners of Illinois held their second annual meeting to discuss problems with state regulation of handguns, Kappan made himself available for discussion and demonstration of his new rifle targets. At that meeting he demonstrated how he could shoot two rounds at 100 yards without hitting anything - an accomplishment which federal law prohibited him from doing under state regulations which did not take into account different types of ammunition being fired with shotguns
Macomb is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 54,853 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Macomb Township. The city is located on the shore of Lake Michigan and is bordered by Union City to the north, Clinton Township to the east, Flint Township to the south, and Bay City to the west. The first permanent settler in what would become Macomb was Nicholas Hildebrandt in 1837. He built a log cabin on what would later be known as Hildebrandt Street. A few years later John Paddock settled near present-day Park Heights and began farming land that he bought from Nicholas Hildebrandt. In 1849, John Paddock's son Charles founded a gristmill on current-day Park Avenue in what became known as Pattonville. The Pattonville Mill was destroyed by fire in 1862 but its ruins still remain today as part of nearby Mount Hope Cemetery. In 1868 George Stephenson erected an iron bridge over the Huron River which spanned it at present-day Lombard Road and Old State Road (now US 26). This event helped lay the foundation for Mackinac Island's economy which continues today with shipbuilding and tourism activities related thereto. In 1870 Samuel Morse established his telegraph line between Detroit and Ann Arbor thereby initiating an era of communication that has lasted up until this day including various telephone systems operated by local companies like MCI Communications Corporation through their predecessors Bell Telephone Company or AT&T Inc., among others - these days often referred to simply as "telecommunications". A new township was formed out of parts of Clinton Township on November 1st, 1881 when voters approved boundaries that included most of what now makes up Macomb Township - Namely: North Side (later South Side), Lombard Road/Old State Road (now US 26), all of Present-Day Mount Hope Cemetery (originally Center Point Cemetery) except for sections near McCormick Place Shopping Center & IKEAmacombschools before those were transferred into Clinton Township proper; East Side (later West Side), much of present-day Porter Street between Chicago Ave & Elmhurst Rd; South Side from Dearborn Rd all the way down to Cass Corridor; Northwest corner from Stevenson Blvd NE allthewaytoLake St Clair just beyond Portage Rd.; Southeast corner from Stevenson Blvd NNW allthewaytoBay City Rd.; finally Provisionsal lines around downtown areas -East side cameos mostly around McNichols Plaza then went NW along Cass Corridor before coming back E along Porter St.-West side mainly around Grandview Dr then continued along Harrison Ave till it merged with East side sometime after 1920 while Downtown area got its own incorporation only 2 years later... thus creating one big municipality with many smaller districts within it still extant today! Today there are over 60 parks within Macomb limits including 14 designated golf courses Tiger Woods trained at his private clubFairmont Hills Golf Club located about 3 miles SE&NEof central park across from McCormick Place shopping center while also 9 baseball diamonds 8 track fields 5 basketball courts 3 softball fields 2 waterparks 1 fairgrounds 1 zoo Macomb is home to several universities such as Wayne State University where students study Business Administration and Technology; Northern Illinois University where students study Business Administration, Entrepreneurship & Innovation Studies; Indiana Wesleyan University where students study Christian Ministry & Religious Education; Romeo Community College where students study Hospitality Management ; Palmer Tech Prep School which offers career training in Design Technology

Macomb is a small town in Macomb County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,853 at the 2010 census. It has been called "the Hub of the Midwest" because it is home to five universities and other educational institutions. The first settlers in what is now Macomb Township were three men from Holland who arrived on the Mayflower in 1624. They named their township after their original hometown of Magdeburg, Germany. The first school in Macomb Township was opened in 1809 by Reverend John Fisker and Dr. James Kappelbach. The first school board was appointed on October 15, 1812 by President James Kappelbach. The first post office in Macomb Township was established on December 2, 1813 by Major Amos Hillyer with HIlls as the only initialism. In 1815, macaroni became an official U.S currency unit when it was designated as one dollar worth ten cents of English money at that time. In 1830, macaroni became a state standard when it replaced silver dollars as the medium of exchange for goods and services in Illinois statewide transactions.. In 1850, macaroni replaced paper money when gold Specie became available to be used as currency throughout Illinois statewide transactions.. In 1870, during construction of Northwestern Central Railroad (N&C), local farmers donated land along its tracks for railroad construction purposes which led to increased business opportunities for those living near railways and helped spur economic growth across much of rural Illinois over the next several decades... During World War II there was significant defense activity taking place aroundMacomb including shipbuilding yards and production lines for aircraft parts... After WWII ended and majorpopulations changes occurred throughout Illinois involving suburbanization/demographic shifts within counties leading to shrinking tax bases associated with large towns such asChicago;Macombsween 5000-6000 residents declined below 2000 residents until 2000 AD when increasing residential values caused increase numbers above 6000 residents again until 2010 AD... Today's community began developing rapidly due to new construction projects announced or completed since 2000 plus numerous businesses opening up due to strong economic conditions throughout Michigan County including truck stops dotting Interstate 95; agricultural production areas;industrial parks dotting I-94 corridor;and diverse service sector businesses located along I-55 corridor providing good transportation options into central Michigan County... Most notable are recent developments occurring near downtown area well known for its nightlife offerings stemming from newly created city limits adjacent to downtown area having multiple hotels/restaurants/bars etc.;increasingly popularenture destinations such as Waterford Lakes Golf Course minutes away off I-55Exit 169 opposite government center;and extensive medical professionals services offered by nearby hospitals making it convenient for both individuals and families seeking quality care
The village of Macomb, Illinois was founded in 1837 by the Ohio Company. The company built a mill and store in what is now Macomb Township. The first settler in Macomb was John Haggerty, who arrived in 1838. In 1840, the village had seven residents and two businesses. In 1853, the village became a town when it merged with neighboring towns of Richmond and Batavia. On March 15, 1860, Macomb was renamed after General George Washington to honor his historical significance as commander-in-chief during the American Revolution. In 1898, part of Dearborn County was transferred from Indiana to Michigan Territory, creatingMacomb Township along with its neighbor Richmond Township. On April 14 of that year, the township became a full-time local government under the jurisdiction of the newly created City of Detroit.
