Macomb, Illinois is a city in Macomb County, Illinois, United States. The population was 21,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first people to inhabit what is now Macomb Township were the Potawatomi and Ottawa Indians. The first white settler in what became Macomb Township was George Washington Carver who arrived in 1837. On November 8, 1867, Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated as the 44th president of the United States and on January 6, 1870 he signed an act incorporating Macomb Township into Cook County. Abraham Lincoln's home and tomb are located in nearby Elmwood Cemetery. The township had a population of just over 1,000 people when it became part of Cook County; by 1910 it had increased to more than 12,000 people due to waves of immigration from Hungary (most notably during World War I), Italy (during which time many Italians moved to Macomb), Poland (during which time many Poles moved to Macombsi) and other countries after World War II. The city of Detroit acquired much of what is now east-centralMacombsi following its creation as a result of the Michigan Central Railroad's purchase of most of Lake Michigan's southern shoreline including all or portions of: Angelino Heights; Arlington Heights; Berkley Park; Cadillac Fairview; Darlington Heights; Elmhurst; Ford Heights; Hardwick Hills ; Inkster (); La Grange ; Lyndhurst ; Oak Park ; Plainfield ; Rosemont Groves ; River Rouge while still retaining some land along Grand Blanc Road near Dearborn Heights that served as routing for both trains heading southward from downtown Detroit and northbound trains heading northwest from Jackson Beach outside Detroit limits. This left much unused land between Oakland Avenue on Lake Shore Drive eastward to Dearborn Street on the southwest corner with Wayne Avenue westward - what would become known as "the hood" - until parcels were annexed by Detroit during late 1941-early 1942 when Randolph Hearst's new Hollywood Motion Picture Producers & Distributors Inc., commonly known as Hollywood Productions took control of most movie theater chains across North America and began developing undeveloped land within incorporated cities Limits thereby creating neighborhoods such as Highland Park/Highland Woods in Chicago while also annexing scores...

Macomb is a small city in the northwestern corner of Illinois. It lies about 20 miles north of Chicago on the shores of Lake Michigan, and is about 25 miles east of Detroit. As of the 2010 Census, its population was 506. The first permanent settler in what is now Macomb County was Nicholas Romer in 1814. In 1824, John Stephenson founded a trading post here which became known as Stephenson's Landing. The area now included in Macomb County was not settled until after 1836 when Indiana Territory was organized from parts of Michigan and Illinois. The town began to grow rapidly due to its location, access to water supplies, and easy transportation by wagon or horseback through part of Wayne County. By 1860, Macomb had a school, church, jail and five stores. By 1870 it had a population of 2200 with seven churches and twenty-two businesses. In 1873 the first railway line arrived in Macomb - the Grand Trunk Railway - making it easier for people to get around and starting some important economic growth for the community. As more people came into town, schools were built as well as churches and other public buildings such as an opera house which still stands today (the first opera company ever performed at this building). In 1893 an express train service arrived that allowed residents to get around quickly without having to go all the way out to Chicago or Detroit! In 1915 Apple Incorporated moved their operations from Jobs City – then called Danville – into one large building on State Street near Macomb Community College; this led to increased business opportunities for locals who could no longer bring their goods overland or by boat across Lake Michigan. An increase in manufacturing activity during World War I led to new jobs being created in automobiles production plants such as Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company’s Willow Run Plant – just outside Macombsocket – while heavy industry closed down throughout much of America during World War II including several mills located within ten miles of downtown Detroit (eBay Inc., Ford Motor Company) because there were no war-time materials available domestically that could be used in those factories! Afterward many local businesses including restaurants started up again but also sawDeclinein real estate values leading some businesses like Carpenters' Union Local 546 (now United Auto Workers Local 546)to closing shop during hard times . On July 1st 1969Macombsocket lost its charter status from incorporation so most aspects similarities between city& county ceased effective Aug 1st 1969
In 1812, the first white man to set foot on what is now Macomb, Illinois was Captain George Rogers Clark. In 1817, the first black person to visit Macomb was a slave named Rachel.
