Machesney Park is a village in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,839 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wheaton–Arlington area. Machesney Park was organized on November 3, 1871 when 2 families from neighboring Lockport merged into the Village of Machesney. The first postmaster was Mrs. C.C. Slingerland and mail delivered to her home until it could be sent to the post office on Elm Street which had been built in 1868 by George Washington Carver and his son Ebenezer Carver II. The first schoolhouse in Machesney Park was built in 1875 by Fentonville Teachers Association member James Aiken and later named for Drs. Simon Grosse and Levi Coffin who were trustees of that association at that time. In 1907, a new school house (No 9) was erected by Friends of Machesney Park Committee member Charles Hultman and dedicated on October 10th with Eliza Weldon as its first teacher/mistress/ hostess./ At this time there were only 6 children attending School District No 5’s one story wood frame structure located at 133 Elm Street which served as our current School House until it burned down on July 24th 1945 due to careless use of cigarettes by some students inside during lunchtime while attendance records were being kept! In 1913-14 a new two story brick school building (No 12) replaced the old wooden structure which served as our present day schoolhouse from 1914-1945! This brick building contained an auditorium which functioned as our highschool gymnasium from 1915-1945; an extensive library; four classrooms with desks for 30 students each; three science rooms; three music rooms; a kitchenette with oven, refrigerator, sink and tableware; two bathrooms with shower stalls outside each side door - one upstairs next to entrance hall leading out into classroom level playing field), both front doors facing Elm Street! A west wing addition (No 13) also included studio apartments above grocery store operated by Mrs John Jernigan starting in 1918 until its closing down in 1984 after she passed away suddenly just days before ! A memorial garden has been planted near where Mrs Hultman's old school house once stood including a plaque honoring her memory along with trees, flowers and benches designed especially for this purpose by local artist James Kappanese
Machesney Park was a large manor house, located in the town of Machesney, Illinois. The home was built in 1839 by John C. Machesney and his wife, Eliza Jane. It is now part of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
