Red Dot Sight History in Machesney Park, Illinois Machesney Park is a small town located in the Macon County area of Illinois. The population was 5,965 at the 2010 census. It is named after General James K. Machesney who fought in the American Civil War and later served as president of the United States from 1881 to 1887. The first red dot sight was installed here in 1957 by rifleman Bob Laughlin, who then donated it to the local police department. In 1969, Red Dot Sight Corporation opened its first store in Machesney Park and has continued to be a major player in this industry ever since. Today, there are over 60 stores across North America selling red dot sights and accessories. The history of red dot sights goes back many years and they have roots that can be traced back to World War I when soldiers were using Template:Convert/Hexadecimal/Decimal units for sighting devices such as tracer rounds and machine guns. This system was known as “Tripod sight” because it allowed troops to maintain their aim while on the move by suspending theirweapon from a tripod-like stand or post. This system proved successful enough that it was used during World War II by Allied Forces including both U.S. Marines and British Army troops stationed along occupied Europe coastlines for target practice with rifles and machineguns alike (See Figures 1-4). After World War II, military engineers began studying new sights which would allow them to place more focus on precision shooting at long range without having to rely on Tripod sight systems which could become unreliable under high stress conditions or if moved around frequently (See Figure 5). They came up with the idea of an automated red dot sight which would allow shooters to maintain their aim while firing through a clear lens without having any contact with metal (See Figure 6). This device became known as an “Automated Red Dot Sight” or ARDS for short (See Figures 7-8)). With this new invention, infantry officers could now fire accurately at targets out far away without having to depend on Tripod sight systems which were prone to malfunction or becoming dirty under high pressure situations (See Figures 9-10)). The development of ARDS not only helped improve firepower but also gave commanders more control over where their troops were positioned on battlefields making them easier target spotters rather than relying solely uponey scouts who might not have accessto reliable information about enemy positions)

Machesney Park was named after John Machedney, an early settler and a judge on the village's first court bench. In 1873 Machedney donated land to create what is now Machesney Park Institute of Technology and Research (MPIR). In 1951, MPIR became Chatham College when it merged with Stritch School District No. 2 in Quincy, Illinois. currently Chatham Colleges operates as a four-year private university located in Machesney Park with campuses in Aurora and Glen Ellyn IL The first post office for Machsonsborough was established on April 20th 1853 by George Fenton with Nellie Bicknell as the clerk. The name change came about because residents were frequently exchanging mail at the local stream which they called "Macheneysbrook." The post office continued until 1862 when it was moved to its present location northeast of town on Ulysses S Grant Road near Presentation High School. On November 3rd 1865 Machsney had its first church service when Rev Dr James Caird officiated at First Presbyterian Church south of town on Wellesley Street. A new church building was completed in 1868 and served as the parish house until 1903 when it burned down and replaced by present day Machsney Methodist Episcopal Church which also functions as a schoolhouse today! In 1861 machsney got their own fire engine from pikeville but that never worked very well so they bought one from chicago & put it back together & gave it to machsley park

The name derived from the farm Macha, which had been acquired by his father, John Sachse, in 1837. The first store and post office were built there in 1847. In 1870, Machesney Park became a village and was granted a charter by the Illinois General Assembly. It grew rapidly into an active community with many businesses and residences.
