Machesney Park was founded in 1872 by John Fitch. The first post office in Machesney Park was established on December 1, 1872. The name of the town was chosen to honor General James McDowell MacGregor, who served as United States Army Chief of Staff during the American Civil War and led an expedition againstPawnee Indians in 1868. Machesney Park was initially settled by Germans who arrived from Germany in the mid-1850s and soon began trading goods with local Native Americans. In 1871, when Illinois became a state, Machesney Park became part of Rockford Township. The township seat moved from Rockford to Machesney Park in 1903 due to problems with transportation between the two townships. In 1969, Machenee Park residents voted 3-2 to become their own municipality and renamed it "Machinesey Park". On July 1st of that year, Mayor Chuck Yeager announced that Machineryey would be awarded its own independent school district which would include all of Machineryey Village including Pembroke Elementary School and annexed Old Central High School (now known as Highland Heights Magnet School). On October 15th voters passed a resolution establishing a Engineering/ Technology high school withinMachineryey Park for students grades 9-12 which opened its doors on September 24th 2002 under then Superintendent Drue Coleman There have been many changes over time at MachineryeyPark schools; first opening up shop for daycare & later moving into our current facility!
