In 1851, John Prentice founded a blacksmith shop in Machesney Park. He began making pistols and rifles out of cast iron and brass. In 1865, Abraham Lincoln was shot by John Wilkes Booth in Springfield, Illinois. For many years after this event, it was believed that Booth may have been responsible for shooting President Lincoln. To prove his innocence, Booth took refuge in Machesney Park for several months before leaving America for good in 1865. Because of its location near Chicago and the production capabilities of its blacksmiths, Machesney Park became an important center for firearms industry during the late 19th century. Ammunition manufacturers such as Winchester Armory and Colt Firearms produced high-quality rounds here from 1847 through 1964. Today’s survivors include Butte Gun Works (manufacturing shotguns), American Arms (manufacturing handguns), Black Hills Ammunition Company (manufacturing rifles), and Midway Ammo Company (manufacturing hand grenades). The Community School District #1 opened its first school at Machesney Park on September 1, 1928; it operated until 1933 when it merged into the Chicago School District #1 system. In 1951, Mayor Edward Daley designated Machesney Park as one of twelve communities statewide (along with Cicero Heights, Elmhurst, Hinsdale Hyde Park, Lincolnwood South Side (Chicago), Mayfair-Edgewater Beach Club-Mayfair Beach Township (Northeastern Illinois), North Shore Center-(Albany Hills)), which would form what is now known as "Thecity". That year saw significant growth at MACHNEY PARK when a grocery store and three apartments were built there; this led to increased development around the town center over time as more people moved into town to live or work there. In 1958–1959, Revs.(John) Machin and Edwin Ladd dedicated a new parish church –Methodist Episcopal Church—at corner of Wacker Drive and Prospect Avenue in Machedney Park Village to serve those living near 47th Street on both sides of Lake Michigan shoreline east of I-294/I-94 between State Line Road on the west side and Cicero Avenue on the east side; this parish has been joined by other nearby churches since then including Stroudsburg Presbyterian Church adjacent to Interstate 94 on State Line Road just north of where Machin's home once stood; all these churches are part of "TheCity" today despite having different names because they share common ownership within The City limits despite not sharing any downtown services or facilities such as libraries or schools!

Machesney Park was founded in 1859 by John Machesney. It is one of the oldest amusement parks in the United States and has been featured on TV programs such as "The Simpsons" and "Cheers".
