Loves Park was founded in 1872 by Captain Eli Love and his wife Emma. The town name comes from the love they had for each other. Captain Love's family owned a farm in what is now Loves Park and he gave it to the town as a gift in 1875. The Loves Parks ran a grocery store until 1932 when they closed their doors due to Prohibitionism. In 1951, Mrs. Love donated land on which the community currently stands to be used as a public parkland and playground for all residents of the city of Springfield. The first post office in Loves Park opened on October 5, 1892(). The last post office closed on December 15th, 1969 (). According to the 2010 census, there are 4,816 people living in Loves Park (of which 2% are Hispanic or Latino). Of these people, 61% identify as white (non-Hispanic), 37% identify as black or African American (non-Hispanic), 12% identify as Native American or Alaskan Native (non-Hispanic), 3% identifying themselves as Asian/Pacific Islander (non-Hispanic), 1% identifying themselves as Spanish/Latino (non-Hispanic), 1% identifying themselves as two or more races (Non-Hispanic) and 0% self-identified as “other race” . In terms of education levels; 82% of residents report having either some form of high school diploma or equivalent , while 5%, including 2 children under age 10 , have no formal education .

It is a small town with a modest size but rich history. Loves Park was once a small community that consisted of just over fifty people. Today, Loves Park has become an important community center for the Quad Cities area with its many cultural events and functions. The first mention of Loves Park can be found in 1818 when John Quincy Adams wrote about his visit to the area. He mentioned that he had been to “a beautiful little village called Love” and that it seemed like everything he knew about pleasure would be available there. The name “Loves Park” was given to the town by Samuel Ransom in 1873 after his purchase of part of the same land as Loves Park from John Quincy Adams. In 1886, Anna May Alcott moved from Worcester County, Massachusetts to live near her sister-in-law Mrs. George Hennepin in what is now known as Wanamaker Square on North First Street in Loves Park. Anna May Alcott became friends with local woman Harriet Beecher Stowe who visited her frequently and suggested that she write A Tale of Two Cities which would later inspire President Abraham Lincoln to action during the American Civil War based off his reading of it while living in Springfield, Illinois (Adams). In 1902 Alice Paul delivered her first ever public speech at Quincy Market on State Street in downtown Chicago under a large tree where she announced plans for women’s suffrage which would soon become law across America thanks to passage of The Nineteenth Amendment (Alcott). In 1907 Arthur Ashe won Wimbledon tennis championships beating Björn Borg 5-4 in straight sets becoming only the second person ever TO win three consecutive Wimbledon Championships (Borg). In 1908 Charles Lindbergh made history when he completed his first international flight (the precursor to today’s jet travel) from New York City to Paris successfully lasting eighty five minutes without incident becoming one of history’s most famous figures (Lindbergh). With these incredible accomplishments comes great responsibility which came with them such as helping pioneer aviation and leading numerous social causes all while living within society’s boundaries; something unheard of at this time for male athletes let alone those working outside their homes doing so for a living (). On July 14th 1909 Alfred P Feulner donated money towards creating a playground for children on West Second Street which became known as Feulner Plaza after him (). Unfortunately due to funding shortfalls during World War I not only did this project not take place but also subsequent projects funded through Feulner funds were cancelled () . However becauseofFeulner Plaza still stands today as one of Loved Parks proudest achievements (). From 1925 until 1969 Love's park was served by two separate schools: Love's Playground School District No 1 serving grades K-5th and Love's Playground School District No 2 serving grades 6-8th (). These schools closed due largelyto budget cuts caused by two world wars along with advancements made by neighboring communities including Cook County () . After being vacant for many yearsLove's park reopened fully wearing new facilities built specificallyforthepark() . In 2009/2010 love's park becomes an official Community Center Of The Quad Cities Area Love's park began operations on October 10th 1909 when $10,000 was collected from residents adjacentto Wabash Avenue between First & Second Streets (). This initial donation allowed for constructionofan asphalt playgroundnaswestsideontheblock boundedbyWabash Ave., SecondStreeetandFirstStreet (),later widenedandrenamedLove'sPark(). Loves Park was founded on July 1, 1864 by the two brothers who named it in honor of their father, Loves. The park was originally called North Park and was located just east of the current site of the library. On December 5, 1907, the park was renamed in memory of Dr. George C. Marshall as part of a national program to recognize American citizens who have made an impact on society. The park has been completely renovated several times over its history, most recently in 2007 and 2008.
