By 1860, Love's Park had about 100 residents and was home to two churches – First Presbyterian Church (founded in 1859) and Methodist Episcopal Church (established in 1865). In 1861, Love's Park became part of McLean County when it was formed from portions of Cook County . It remained an agricultural community until after World War II when manufacturing began to take hold in nearby Streator . After World War II ended, many local businesses closed down or were bought out by larger companies ; however, some remain extant today such as Dow Chemical Company , Beloit Furniture Company , Mid-America Radio Corporation , etc.. After years of growth and development at Love's Park which included numerous public improvements such as a schoolhouse (1873), store (1875), post office (1876),BT&T telephone line through town (1909), baseball diamond (1927), fire department (1928), gravel pit/lumber yard/gas station(1931-1964), first water tower built in IL(1978-1981) & last electric light tower built north IL(1986-1988) - today love’s park features over 150 active businesses & Over 120 residential units !!
