Loves Park, Illinois is a census-designated place located in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 1,883 at the 2010 census. Loves Park is a suburb of Chicago. The first settlement in the area now known as Loves Park was made up of farmers and their families who had migrated from other parts of the United States during the early 1800s. By 1871, there were over 100 people living in what is now Loves Park. The original name for the community was "Niles." In 1887, a group of businessmen and developers met to create a town plan for what is now Loves Park. They came up with the name "Loves Park" after they saw an advertisement for land in Cook County that included part of what is now Loves Park. The developers built several homes and businesses within the limits of today's Loves Park while also constructing a town hall and water tower which are still standing today. Loves Park officially became a community on December 12, 1898 when it passed through annexation by Chicago from Rockford Township. It has grown rapidly since its incorporation as both an annexed village and then city; by 1920, it had more than 2,000 residents and was making significant investments in infrastructure such as road work, public parks and libraries. Loves Park was founded by John Smeaton in 1879 as a small settlement on the west side of Chicago. By 1901, it had become an important agricultural center for central and eastern Illinois, with large holdings in soybeans, corn, wheat, cattle, pigs, and other crops. In 1907 Loves Park became the first municipality in Cook County to be annexed into Chicago; it served as a bedroom community for downtown Chicago until suburbanization drove much of the population out during the 1960s through gentrification efforts. The city's history can be traced back to 1879 when John Smeaton established a small settlement on the west side of Chicago for himself and his family after purchasing land from his father-in-law,. Three years later he donated 4½ acres (2 ha) adjacent to what is now Loves Park Cemetery to make room for further development (). Loves Park is a small town in Illinois that was founded in 1859. It is the namesake of the Loves Park Land and Water Company, which was created to purchase land in what is now Chicago for the purpose of creating a park. The company's first president, Isaac L.
