They started a small farm near present-day Rush Street and Western Avenue. By 1887, they had moved to a large tract of land that included present-day Loves Park and parts of Skokie and Northfield. The original home of the founders still stands today, now used as a retirement home for local officials and their families. In 1907, Mayor John Fenton dedicated an open air public square in Loves Park known as "The Square", which remains one of its most popular destinations today for events such as concerts, fireworks displays, and family fun days. In 1909 the city fathers decided to build a park on this property so that residents could enjoy open spaces without having to go outside to play or drive their cars around cones! The park was completed in 1913 and became known as "Loves Park". Today's community has grown considerably since its incorporation into the city limits – there are now over 30 businesses within walking distance of downtown Loves Park! There are also several parks Within walking distance including: Lovett Pond Wildlife Preserve (home to Morehead Lake), McCarthy Woods subdivision (home to extensive wetlands), Mount Carmel Cemetery (a beautiful cemetery with many notable people buried there), Chapin Lakes subdivision (home to brownfields containing thousands of dollars worth of structures dating back to before Prohibition!), Crystal Springs subdivision (home to ponds filled with all sorts of fish!), Mill Pond subdivision (good fishing areas including both bodybuilding lakes - Oneida Lake & Silver Spring Creek -and smaller creeks which make great duck hunting locations!), Addison Beach Boulevard NE (one mile long beachfront highway perfect for swimming/sunbathing/boat launches/windsurfing/kayaking/climbing etc.), Incorporation Rd./Chicago Ave./Rush St./Western Ave.- [including] much more potential for exploration & discovery yet undeveloped!!

Loves Park, Illinois is a small town located in Macomb County, Illinois. The population was 2,876 at the 2000 census. The name of the town was given to it by Nathaniel Loves who emigrated from England in 1831. He established a farm there and named it after his late wife Lucy. Loves Park is one of the oldest communities in Macomb County and was first settled by German immigrants in 1836. It became an American community on July 4, 1836 when fifty-six people from Germany founded the village of Hinsdale on the east side of Chicago River. On January 1, 1840, Loves Park incorporated as a city with a population of 3200. In 1870, Loves Park's railroad depot served as the terminus for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad company's line fromChicago to Elgin. The depot closed in 1906 and has been demolished ever since.
