By 1900, most of what today makes up Loves Park had been developed: a small shopping center with four blocks of storefront space on Main Street between First Avenue and Washington Boulevard; three frame homes dating from 1905–06; a private park adjacent to First Avenue and Washington Boulevard; two churches—St John’s Episcopal Church (founded 1892) and Christ United Methodist Church (founded 1906)—both with their own cemetery; several hardwood pulp mills operated by Chenault Paper Company (later Dean-Carr Paper Company) along Clinton Street between Main Street and Washington Boulevard which produced paper for local newspapers such as "The Daily Review" In 1913, two new schools were added to Loves Park when Holy Cross Grade School opened on Third Street south of First Avenue west ofpresent-day US-101/I-55 highway Holy Cross School remained operational until 1978 when it was replaced by East High School which became West Side High School after Eastside Community Schools merged into Willoughby Township Hallmark Academy District #3 in 2013

Loves Park was founded in 1868 by John and Anna Ledyard. The Ledyards were among the first settlers in what is now Lakeview Township. In 1875, they built a log cabin on their property which still stands to this day. Loves Park experienced its early growth as a result of its location on the border of two counties: Winnetka and Danville. The Ledyards built a wagon road connecting Danville with Chicago and sold goods along it. This road helped stimulate economic development in the area and produced jobs for local citizens who supplied goods needed by other towns near by. In 1919, Anna's husband Daniel died leaving her widowed with three children to raise alone; however she continued to provide support for her community through her administrative duties at village hall and through fundraisers such as dances (known as "Anna nights") that attracted visiting dignitaries from around the country. In 1925, Anna designated her home on Elm Street within walking distance of village hall as the new headquarters for the Village Trustees which later became known as "The Parks". over time many other rooms were added including an auditorium/ballroom, kitchenette/diner, library/multi-purpose room, front porch (later used as an outdoor classroom), storage sheds (+ garage) off Garden Drive (later renamed Hwy 58), putting green (+ tennis courts), water tower (+ pump house), post office building (- school). Loves Park experienced significant growth during World War II due to its proximity to factories making ammunition and war materials.(*)(**) By 1945 it had reached 3,000 residents ({'}')* {*}. Many businesses closed during wartime but those that survived stayed active until after repeal of Prohibition in 1933.* {*}(**) As post-war prosperity increased throughout America (*}, so did social unrestrained by regulation or prohibition††† led to increasingly violent confrontations between communities striving for parity against each other††‡*.
