Loves Park, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 54,521 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Cook County after Chicago. Loves Park is adjacent to Aurora and Westchester Counties. Loves Park was founded in 1881 by George Henson and his wife Anna. It became a town in 1903. In 1907 it became an city and was named for Edwin Booth Loving (1863-1932), an American actor who had starred in many films based on melodrama stories written by Edwin Booth himself. The original park was located on the east side of town near where the current City Hall stands today. A new park was built on land west of town from what is now First Baptist Church until 1909 when that building burned down and all evidence of the park were lost forever. That event helped spur development along the riverfront which now includes much of downtown Loves Park with its wonderful architecture dating back to that time including some of Chicago's first skyscrapers! In 1916, Mayor John Pritzker designated Parkside as one of five areas withinChicago that would be developed into "a world-famous recreational area" as part of plans to revitalize downtown Chicagoland; this designation led to more than $1 million being spent on park improvements over the next few decades including creation of two large lakes - one for swimming and another for boating - as well as several smaller ones throughout central Downtown Loves Park area culminating with construction of Wrigley Field just east of downtown (the home field for Cubs baseball until 2003) during which time portions of North Side neighborhoods between Dearborn Street and State Street were destroyed or heavily redeveloped into high-rise apartment buildings while much lower ground remained rural farmland; today South Side neighborhoods between Dearborn Street and Michigan Avenue have seen modest redevelopment while much lower ground remains agricultural

Loves Park is a small town in the northcentral Illinois area, located about 20 miles east of Chicago. The population was 3,536 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1881 by Edward D. Loves and his wife Sarah A. Loves, and was named for their home in Scotland, which they had moved to during the 1880s after buying an estate there from a wealthy Scottish gentleman. The town's first store opened on May 1, 1881, and its first post office opened on October 12th that year. By 1888 it had a population of just 10 people; however, within two years it had grown to over 100 with a store, schoolhouse (1889), Baptist church (1890), Masonic lodge (1891), blacksmith shop (1892), livery stable (1902) and several other businesses. In 1902 Loves Park became one of only two towns in Cook County that were established wholly or partly through cooperative effort – the other being Berwyn Heights near Glenview.[1] Throughout the early years of its existence Loves Park suffered various setbacks: due to bad water conditions caused by primitive methods of drilling wells for irrigation purposes; drought; livestock diseases such as bovine spongiform encephalopathy;[2] economic recession following World War I;[3] fire damage done by careless individuals during prohibition Era Prohibition riots;[4] vandalism by youth associated with crime gangs operating out of nearby Englewood during 1950s American serial killer case known as "the cases".[5][6] However through hard work and perseverance all these problems were overcome and today the town has many notable landmarks including its namesake park - Edith Mudd Library & Museum complex built between 1984-1986,[7][8][9][10][11][12][13], Willis Tower – once home to Sears department stores – now used as offices,[14] Pritzker Pavilion designed by starchitect Richard Meier – now home to MoMA - [15], Stroudsburg Methodist Episcopal Church built in 1903,[16], Moravian Chapel built in 1906,[17],[18], Presbyterian Church building completed in 1916,[19],[20], Our Lady Of Hope Catholic School Annex build between 1922-1924,[21].
Loves Park, Illinois was founded in 1853. The town was named after George Washington Love. The first post office in the town was established in 1854. Loves Park became a village in 1869 and a city in 1901. In 1949, the city of Chicago annexed Loves Park as its second city.
