Loves Park, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 26,711 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous municipality in Cook County after Chicago and the third most populous city in Illinois after Springfield and Chicago Heights. Loves Park is named for George Washington Loves, who donated land to the community. Loves Park was founded on July 18, 1903 by George Washington Loves and his wife Anna Jane Morrissey. At its peak in 1920, it had a population of over 30,000 people. In 1900-1901 there were also 12 stores and two hotels located in what is now Loves Park. The first post office opened in these facilities on August 2nd, 1901. The original location of today's downtown Loves Park was part of an area known as Humboldt Township which was established by order of President James K. Polk on December 1st 1846 as part of a plan to create new townships throughout the Midwest to provide more land for settlers and encourage development along Federal Road (present day I-90). In 1892 Congress passed the General Land Act providing that all public lands east of Lake Michigan must be divided into homesteading blocks four miles square if not already claimed by private individuals or groups; this parcel within present day Humboldt Township became known as "LOVES PARK". The town site chosen for incorporation did not include what would become downtown Loves Park but included most of current Daylesford Avenue including much of what still makes up today's north side of Roosevelt Road between First Street and Second Street - with just a minimal strip between those streets running through present day Humboldt Township proper (nowmostly residential areas), making this one of only two U shaped townships in Cook County - with no loop around any other section - despite being about twice size when measured from east to west (the other being Mokena). On November 7th 1902 at a meeting held at home by citizens gathered to consider incorporation under Article V authority granted by state law under then US Constitution Section 1021(b)),George Washington Loves selected 25 vote members from among himself & his wife Anna Jane Morrissey & their attorney Fenton Dickinson to form "The Town Company" chartered on January 8th 1903 with full voting rights bylaws etc., name changed 3 times before adopting final name "LOVES PARK" on February 11th 1903 following ratification referendum results.. On October 6th 1909 during an election ceremony presided over by Mayor John Ahern [sic] led by Supervisor Wm Clements announce[d] election returns showing 98% majority against change from "HOLiday Settlement" name approved Sept '09 thru Oct '10 thru secret ballot “…We hereby adopt as our legal name for our town organization” – George Washington LovesMayor John Ahern

Loves Park is a small town located in DuPage County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Loves Park was founded in 1871 by Irish immigrants, John and Mary Loughrey. The Loughreys named their village after their children's first love, a park in Dublin called Great Ormond Street. In 1875, the Loughreys erected a schoolhouse and began to sell land for development. By 1888, they had purchased more than two-thirds of what would become the town of Loves Park. They named their new community after one of their three daughters - Sarah (the other two were Ann and Emma). In 1895, the Chicago Rapid Transit Company built an electric streetcar line from downtown Chicago to Love's Park; it was the first station in Love's Park. The company also donated land for a railroad depot and tracks on which the current town plaza now stands. When completed, the Depot served as both local transitory goods yards and as a center for cultural activities within Love's Park itself - such as concerts and dances – until World War II when it became an Army Air Forces airfield used for training pilots during World War II. The post office opened in 1903; it served as headquarters for DuPage County until 1959 when it moved to Wheaton IL due to population growth within that township alone (DuPage County had no incorporated towns then). After years of planning by then-Mayor George Sheehan & his predecessor James Phelan--including pouring $1 million into acquisition & renovation of county seat Wheaton--the new county courthouse opened its doors on April 6th 1961 following completion of adjacent annexations including parts of neighboring Kane County (& Grayslake suburbs) making Love’s Park its 4th incorporated municipality! Today there are over 180 businesses located inside or nearLove’s Village with over 350 residents employed directly or indirectly here! There are many organizations which support our community including: school district (3 schools), fire department (2 stations), library system (4 branches), Scouts/Guides group/Troop #527 (largest troop in Cook County), mental health services provider STARS Behavioral Health Services Inc., agricultural production cooperative CropLife Cooperative LLC., youth football league “The Gophers” And More!
Loves Park was founded in 1869 as a small village on the east side of Chicago, Illinois.
