Lombard is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 27,816 at the 2010 census. It is the sixth-largest city in Illinois. Lombard is located on the southern edge of Cook County and northwest of Chicago. The first European to visit what is now Lombard was Giovanni da Verrazzano in 1524 and he named it for his friend and patron, Girolamo Lombardo, an Italian explorer who had explored parts of North America. In 1836, John Deere sent a man by the name of Smedley Butler to survey the land that would become Lombard as part of their boundary line between Cook County and DuPage County. He found that there were already people living in what became Lombard from earlier Indian populations. On October 1st 1840 Black Hawk led a party including three white men from Michigan down the Fox River towards what would later become Lombard while they still thought they were attacking Indian village during the War of 1812. When they arrived at what is now known as Black Hawk's Landing on December 5th 1840 they found evidence that there had been a previous tribe numbering many hundreds of people living near where the river empties into Lake Michigan before being raided by Native Americans several years earlier called "The Illini" or "Natives". One account said: "A great camp lay uponthe banks of this stream; around which encircled several small villages; among these were numerous Boys playing war with bows and arrows... various articles seemed to have passed through their hands since we left them: some baskets filled with cornmeal, others filled with meat—all sorts which I supposed must have been gathered during our absence." Smedley Butler also noted one house standing alone on a mound about two miles (3 km) downstream from where he discovered it later when he re-landmarked Black Hawk's Landing on his mapmaking trips back east starting in 1847 A version published posthumously by Edward Coylestates that this house was built for Col. Joseph Kaskasky (1775-1855), an American Revolutionary War veteran who fought under General Horatio Gates at Battle Of Pauluskecken(September 3rd 1795).Kaskacky was married to Mary Ann Dunham (1771-1859), daughter of Chief Justice Samuel Latham Dunham (1758-1825) and sister to US Congressman Aaron Burr (1773-1828). Mrs Kaskacky donated her inheritance from her father's estate to charity after his death; this may be how it got its current name - Stonington House - after she moved into it circa 1870." Lombard, Illinois is a small town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,521 as of the 2000 census. It is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lombard was founded in 1847 by Italian immigrants who arrived from central Italy. The first post office in Lombard was established on July 12, 1847. The Lombard railroad reached the town in 1881 and soon became a vital link between Springfield and rural areas to the south and east. In 1915, Lombard became one of the villages within Springfield when it was annexed by that city. The first white child born in Lombard was Johnathan Goodspeed on November 8, 1865. By 1990, there were only 113 residents living in Lombard; however those numbers have since grown to over 1,000 due to new development around town as well as births and deaths among its citizens. Today’s economy is based largely on manufacturing which has continued to be an important factor for the community since it began producing goods such as automobiles and farm equipment during the late 19th century until now. Additionally transportation has played an important role throughout history with various modes of transportation available: railroads (the original line went through downtown), buses (which operated out of Palmer Stadium until 1978), drivers coming all day long to pick up customers at their homes or businesses then bring them back home for dinner or overnight storage before driving off downriver again that night; trucking also became a major aspect after World War II when residents started using their trucks for farm work instead of horse power which created more traffic congestion on local streets near factories where people had to stop every few minutes for something else than getting home alive!
Lombard was founded in 1827 by the brothers Giovanni and Bartolomeo Lombardi. The Lombard family had a significant presence in the area until the late 1800s, when they withdrew from active participation in local politics. In 1871, Luigi Lombardi became the first president of Lombard County.
