Polk called together all interested parties to organize town sites around Lisle and selected that spot as its first permanent home. A few days later general merchandise merchant Isaac Hecker offered to donate 300 acres (121 ha) near present-day Sheboygan Falls for use as a public square and courthouse complex; settlers accepted his offer without further discussion and laid out their village in an area bounded by First Street (north), Second Street (southwest), Third Street (west), Fourth Street ( northwest), Fifth Avenue ( northeast) and Sixth Avenue (east). In less than two weeks from its founding date, over 50 homes were constructed with only $2 each contributed from citizens who came from various parts of Illinois or neighboring states looking for new opportunities after Abraham Lincoln’s election as President on November 4th that year. Although initially unplanned or coordinated efforts by individual citizens – including carpentry master John Ralston Purcell – quickly evolved into what we now know as “the town movement” orˈʃaɪn dæiks tøj ˈbɛʊd nüv/Lisæn/Lispēn/, some Clearwater Creek Road bridges still stand today reminders that early residents organized themselves quickly while others simply donated materials needed at this time such as lumbering poles and fencing posts which were soon soldered together using primitive methods then transported across country using teams of oxen drawn by farmers wagons to be delivered to their destination - many miles away! Today during autumn festivals & events surrounding Halloween & Thanksgiving there are often hundreds if not thousands walking through our vibrant Downtown streets dressed up like costumed characters from yesteryear! Once again recent surveys show that more than half OF THE CITY'S POPULATION LIVE IN DOWNTOWN LISSE - WITH NO CHANGE IN DEMOGRAPHICS FOR OVER 20 YEARS!! What started small grew rapidly here in LISSE - setting an example for other municipalities throughout Cook County!"
